Dear Parishioner, The Feast of the Baptism of the Lord helps us to refocus on the Christmas Season and what it means to us, disciples, baptized in Christ’s love. Remember, Christmas celebrates God becoming one of us. God the Father sent his Son to free us from our sins. Ironically, this feast which is all about forgiveness and mercy often reminds us of our faults and weaknesses. The Christmas Season sometimes opens old wounds and divisions within the family and our larger society. St. Luke reminds us: “Be on your guard! If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. And if he wrongs you seven times in one day and returns to you sev-en times saying, “I am sorry,” you should forgive him.” (Luke 17:3) When I reflect on this Gospel, I say NO! It's not that easy, especially if you're dealing with real hurts and not just so-cial slights. Seven times a day? Come on, what are you thinking? What I have learned and continue to learn is that for-giveness takes time. In fact if you forgive too soon, you set yourself up as a patsy, and for a future and more harming hurts. That's plain dysfunctional living! Time! Time in prayer, time with a soulmate in order to un-derstand what was really going on. Time to discern if you contributed to the matter. Yes, time is needed to let God work within you and the one who hurt you. Even when you eventually have the courage to speak the words “I forgive you,” you may still have an ache in your heart. Even with time, the emotions may come forth. Please pray! Don't be afraid, God's Grace will be with you and will help you not to go too fast, not to be overwhelmed, not to be hurt again. The second point I would like to make is that you must also be able to forgive yourself. Often times, rightly or wrongly, we ourselves feel that we played a role in the wrong doing, in the deep hurt that robs our joy. Can we let the Birth of the Christ Child break through the darkness of our own sins and failings? This, too, takes time, perhaps a lifetime. But God's grace comes to us, the worthy and unworthy. God's love and mercy is efficient and so we need not fall into the pit of doubt and sadness. May the Christ Child bind you and your family together in His Love. Father Mike Meany

Okres świąteczny czasami otwiera stare rany i podziały w rodzinie i naszej większej społeczności. Św. Łukasz przypomina nam: “Uważajcie na siebie! Jeśli brat twój zawini, upomnij go; i jeśli żałuje, przebacz mu! Siedem razy dziennie? Czy możemy pozwolić, by Narodziny Dzieciątka Chrystusowego przełamały ciemność naszych grzechów i upadków? Niech Dzieciątko Chrystusowe zwiąże Was i Wasze rodziny w Swojej Miłości. Ks. Mike Meany

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, Across this liturgical year, we hear Saint Matthew’s Gospel. And in this holy season that celebrates the birth of Jesus, we hear a story unique to Matthew—the journey of the Magi. He writes: “The Magi were overjoyed at seeing the star, and on entering the house they saw the child with Mary his mother.” We can imagine their joy. They discovered the one for whom they longed and searched. He is the newborn Jesus. His mother Mary holds him in her arms and, at the same time, presents him to the world. In this simple gesture, she evangelizes, gives us the living good news of her son. Then and now, it is a moment wrapped in joy. On our journey of renewal in the Archdiocese of Chicago, may this image of Mary, mother of the Lord, inspire and encourage us to carry and pre-sent Jesus to a world that is so much in need of him. In our marriages, families, workplaces, and communities, may we joyfully carry and present him who is the great light shining in darkness. God bless you and all your loved ones in this holy season.

Weszli do domu I zobaczyli Dziecię z Mat-ką Jego, Maryją”. On jest nowo narodzonym Jezusem. Jego matka Maryja trzyma Go w ramionach, a jednocześnie przedstawia Go światu.

Sincerely yours in Christ Archbishop of Chicago

“Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the unborn baby that I have spiritually

adopted who is in danger of abortion.”

Starting on the weekend of January 4-5, we are again asking our parishioners to participate in this special fund-raiser to help women in cri-sis pregnancies by supporting the pro-life work of the Catholic-run Women's Centers of Great-er Chicagoland. Baby bottles will be found in main entrances of the church for you to take home and fill with spare change. Any checks should be made out directly to The Women's Centers. Over the prior 14 years our parish has already raised over $254,000 which helped to save 250 babies, who are now living out their lives amongst us. Many of them in turn will have children of their own. Continuing in the spirit of Christmas, let our parishioners of all ages, including the children, work together to save even more little lives. Please return the bottles before any of the masses on the weekend of February 1-2. Please take one bottle per family. Extras will be avail-able in the back of the church the next couple of weekends if you fill up your first one. Thank you for participating in this worthy cause.

Resolve to make a difference in 2020! It is truly up to you, no one else. It’s all in your hands! Volunteer to help at a Preg-nancy Care Center. Become better informed on the critical issues of our time and speak-up to defend Life, Family and Faith!

Let us continue to pray daily: “Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the unborn baby that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion.” Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen

The feast day of Sto. Niño in Tondo is celebrated in the third Sunday of Janu-ary. The fiesta in Tondo has the biggest participa-tion in Manila, in the Phil-ippines, not only because Tondo is the most popu-lous district in the city and poorest but perhaps be-cause of the many tales connected with the Sto. Niño of Tondo. According to Philippine Historical Commission, the peoples of Tondo celebrated the feast day with a procession that “attracted thousands of visitors.” The parish in Tondo houses the image that was brought to the country by Augustinian priests from Acapulco, Mexico, in the late 1570s.

As we engage Renew My Church and strive to form missionary disciples of Jesus, we recognize the call to follow is also a mandate to go out in mission, a healing mission. The Annual Catholic Appeal is an instrument that enables us to fulfill that healing mission. It offers direct help to people and communities in need as well as the formation of those who carry on the mission. The An-nual Catholic Appeal supports parishes in need, Catholic schools, programs of religious education, ministerial formation, marriage and family ministry, and initiatives for life, justice, and peace. It also extends a world-wide outreach through Catholic Relief Services and so touches those affected by wars, famines, and natural disasters
