80 th Birthday of Jim Lovelock
It may be a trite saying, but it is perfect ly true that the older one gets the faster time seems to disappear. It only seems like last year that I was writing an encomium to mark Jim's 75 th
birthday [ 1 ] and suddenly I am asked to write one for his 80 th birthday. However, this is a task which gives me the greatest o f pleasure and I only hope that I will still be around when a paragraph or two is required to mark his 90 th birthday!
For most people we would be wishing them a happy retirement long before they have reached the Biblical fourscore years, but in J im's case I suspect that the word , ,retirement" has never crossed his mind and we can still look forward to a stream of original ideas emanating from his retreat in the South West o f England.
To Jim and his wife, the staff and readers o f Chromatographia would like to take this opportunity to wish you health and happiness for many years to come.
