The CLC has custom-designed a eight-week Intensive Chinese Language program that aims to increase the Chinese language proficiency and the understanding of Chinese culture. Practical extracurricular activities are included for students to experience the unique cultural characteristics of Taiwan. Program Objective

Our objective is to improve speaking and listening skills through a Chinese language program that combines challenging classroom instruction with exciting social and cultural activities. This allows students to observe, participate in, and discuss Chinese culture using a curriculum based on cross-cultural communication.

Teaching Staff

Experienced instructors with bachelor degrees and professional training in Teaching Chinese as Second Language (TCSL).

Textbook

Far East Everyday Chinese, Practical Audio-Visual Chinese, Speak Mandarin, Chinese Moral Tales, Taiwan Today, Thought and Society, Talks on Chinese Culture, Practical Newspaper Readings, A First Course for Literary Chinese, etc.

Curriculum

I. Language Course

Time: Monday through Friday mornings, 3hours instruction per day.

Level: Basic, elementary, intermediate, Advanced.

(Each class should consist of at least 4 students.)

Method: Daily language courses directed in communicative approach, with language games, role-play, authentic materials, and also task-oriented. Hanyu pinyin in Romanization and traditional characters are used as the principal written codes of instruction. However, the course can be taught using simplified characters if student prefer.Content: Basic level courses emphasize pronunciation, daily conversation and message writing. Elementary level courses emphasize practical conversation, story reading and casual writing. Intermediate level courses emphasize meeting report, media readings and summary writing. Advanced level courses emphasize negotiation, newspaper reading and report writing.

Evaluation: graded according to regular assignments, quizzes, midterms and finals.II. Language and Culture Course

Time: 2.5 hours instruction per week.

Method: weekly cultural courses through lectures, demonstration, practices, etc.

Content: various topics such as Chinese calligraphy, Chinese traditional music, Taiwan puppet, Chinese painting, art of Chinese knot, art of paper umbrella, aboriginal culture, temples and Taoist palaces, Beginning Taiwanese.

Evaluation: grades are based on final report of self-chosen topic.

III. Academic Counseling/ Weekly ReviewTime: two hours per week.

Content: Comprised of two hours consultation time, which is conducted by experienced instructors as advisor to assist students learning questions and proof-read their final report.

IV. Cultural Excursion Activities

Time: Four hours per week.

Method: Activities are organized on Friday. Excursion arranged in accordance with the topics of Language and Culture courses.

Content: Half-day tour to glance at Kaohsiung City, night market, windsurfing experience, Hakka Cultural Village, Aborigine Park, Mount Fo Guang and Tainan City, etc. Completion of Program

Student will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the program, if requirements are met. Credit transfer may vary according to regulations of the home institution.

Detailed fee structures

All tuitions, fees and accommodation must be paid in Taiwan Dollars (NT$). I. Tuition: NT$44,000 per person (The fee of study materials is not included.)For each group with a minimum number of 10, the Course fee is NT$44,000. If the group number decreases the course fee will thus increase to cover the necessary expenses of the course for 10 people. Fees subject to change every year. Tuition includes: ( Placement evaluation test;( Language courses;( Language and Cultural courses;( Academic advising sessions;( Cultural Excursion Activities;(its not including 2-day Field Trip)( Welcome luncheon & Farewell luncheon( Handouts(Airport pick-up and departure service (not including transportation to and from the Kaohsiung International Airport)

II. Administration fee: NT$500 per personIII. Accidental Insurance fee: NT$500 per personInclude accidental injury and hospitalized costs.IV. Fees for accommodation and meals:IV-1 Accommodationa. On-campus dormitory (International Village) are double-occupancy rooms (single-occupancy is not available due to limited space);

b. Each room is equipped with Internet access, air condition, wooden-framed bed, desk and chair, bookshelf, and closet; c. Each common area (shared by 4 ~ 5 rooms) is equipped with bathroom and shower facilities, kitchenette (with microwave, no stove), drinking water dispenser, refrigerator, television (cable-access) and lounge area with sofa;d. Electricity cost is charged according to use. Use of air-conditioner will cost you NT$700 per month

e. Cooking is not allowed inside the rooms.Room Rentdeposit
