Creating Patterns Deigns

The third pattern I made was created by using the star tool only. I made three multi-pointed stars, two of which are bigger than one. I arranged the two bigger stars along the left and right upper sides of the art board and centered the smaller one in between them (being sure all are horizontally aligned correctly). To make the smaller star appear in front of the two larger ones, I selected the small star and right clicked and selected arrange, send to front. I then grouped all three stars together which formed the row of shapes. Then I grouped the first row of the shapes together and copy/pasted them to the row

beneath the first one I made. Then grouped both rows together and drug the rectangle box to outline the two rows of shapes. I then made sure the fill and stroke was set to none and chose objects, arrange, and then send to back. This was to make the rectangle box go behind my pattern. I used the selection tool to select my shapes and the box outlining it and chose edit, and then selected define pattern. I then named my pattern and pressed ok, and it saved my pattern. 04

The second pattern I created I used the shapes tools, and created different sized shapes. I used the polygon tool first and then the star tool to set a multi-pointed star inside of the polygon. The next tool I used was the square tool, and rotated it to make a diamond shape. On top of the square sits two circles

and another multi-pointed star, which was created by using the circle and star tools. I grouped the polygon and diamond shapes together, with the circle and stars included, and grouped them together. I copy/pasted the group to sit beside (to the right) of the original, and grouped it all together (as one row). Then I grouped the first row of the shapes together and copy/past-ed them to the row beneath the first one I made.

The first pattern I made is the one named “swirls”, and I made it from one of the symbols that I liked. To create this pattern I drug the symbol onto the artwork board and made copies of the symbol all lined up to fit across the art board horizontally. Then I grouped the first row of the symbols together and copy/pasted them to the row beneath the first one I made. Then grouped both rows together and drug the rectangle box to outline the two rows of symbols. I then made sure the fill and stroke was set to none and chose objects, arrange, and then send to back. This was to make the rectangle box go behind my

pattern. I used the selection tool to select my symbols and the box outlining it and chose edit, and then selected define pattern. I then named my pattern and pressed ok, and it saved my pattern.
