THE LATE DATO’ DR RAJA MOHAMAD ABDULLAH

Founder,Muslim World BIZ & OIC International Business Centre

The prime theory of Allahyarham Dato’ Dr. Raja Mohamad Abdullah, the late CEO of the OIC International Business Centre Sdn Bhd, was that the Muslim world should focus on business, trade and enhancement of peaceful ways to resolve the massive economic problems it currently faces.

He would say the Muslim world has seen its ugly share of wars, conflicts and crises and that Muslim populations are falling behind the rest of the world, pointing out his tenure as the CEO of the company, chairman of the Muslim World BIZ Business & Investment Zone Exhibition & Conference, he would press on that it was time for a change, and to him it meant putting the economy ahead of the political debate. Allahyarham Dato’ Dr. Raja Mohamad Abdullah is the man that relentlessly stood for fellow Muslims, for economic progress, for global integration of the OIC Member Countries and for Malaysia to be known as the catalyst centre for Global Islamic Development.

“But the economic well-being of the people is not catered for, leaving behind a trail of suffering, poverty and wars,” he would say. And this will be one of the last no-holds-barred message that Dato’ would have for the global Muslim community, a message that should remain engraved on the walls of history.

MUHAMMAD RAJA TALIB B. DATO’ DR RAJA MOHAMAD ABDULLAH

Chairman, Muslim World BIZ Chief Executive Officer, OIC International Business Centre

Warm greetings from OIC International Business Centre Sdn Bhd.

We are pleased to announce that the 7th Muslim World BIZ 2016, Trade Exhibition and Conference held at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) Kuala Lumpur from the 18-22 October 2016, was a great success. The theme “Turning Visions Into Realities” drew over 300 Malaysian and international exhibitors occupying close to 1,000 exhibition booths in two halls of the Putra World Trade Centre over a four-day period. It was the ideal platform to network, create and promote brand awareness, conclude deals and expand business.

The four-day programme comprised of the Round Table Talk, the OIC Asia Trade & Economic Forum, the OIC Higher Education Fair, the World Islamic Tourism & Expo and the World Medical Tourism Exhibition & Conference 2016 over 1,200 delegates exchanged ideas and learnt new concepts to lead in enriching the lives, knowledge and economy of the participating individuals, organisations and countries.

I thank you for being a part of the Jewels of the Muslim World Award, one of the world’s leading prestigious awards which honours the movers and shakers who have contributed towards the growth of the global Muslim economy.

With the support of the Government of Malaysia, the OIC and other prominent organisations, the 7th Muslim World BIZ 2016 played a prominent role in increasing the trade among the Muslim and non-Muslim countries. The 7th Muslim World BIZ 2016 focused on providing a platform for business and investment and has been a success over the last six years with over RM500 million in trade and investment deals signed in 2013 alone.

Thank again for being a part of the 7th Muslim World BIZ 2016. I hope it provided you with the golden opportunity to expand into the Muslim market both here in Malaysia as well as in the Muslim and non-Muslim countries worldwide. It was the perfect opportunity to tap into the 1.7 billion Muslim population worldwide.

We look forward to seeing you at the 8th Muslim World BIZ 2017, 18-21 September 2017 in Kuala Lumpur.

Thank you.Yours sincerely,

MUHAMMAD RAJA TALIB B. DATO’ DR. RAJA MOHAMAD

Whether they are born or made, leaders of any nation have significant impact on the success of its current and future endeav-ours. They create visions and draw the required strategies whose implementation brings benefits to both individuals and organisa-tions. Their motives to do so are special personal characteristics they enjoy which make them feel the responsibility towards oth-ers. Their contributions are normally recognised and attributed to them, and a suitable reaction from those who benefit from what they do is to acknowledge their efforts. OIC TODAY magazine takes the initiative to honour a number of the Muslim World lead-ers who have contributed to the development of their countries through the success of the organisations they lead in various in-dustries around the world.

The Jewels of the Muslim World award began in 2011 and has significantly been related to the main goal of the Muslim World BIZ event represented in elevating the status of the Islamic econ-omy through systematic processes. For the first time, and based on the increasing importance of medical tourism services to individuals who seek treatment and also governments as a contributor to the economy, the OIC International Business Centre decided to incorporate the World Medical Tourism Conference & Exhibition to the Muslim World BIZ. Globalization and the availability of information have helped expend medical tourism in the past few years. There are some elements which are considered significant to the choice of a specific destination such as decreased cost, a preference for care from providers from a similar culture, or to receive a procedure or therapy not available in one’s country of residence.

The World Medical Tourism Conference 2017 welcomed all key players in the medical tourism industry that are looking to create more economically viable healthcare solutions from their communities and wish to discuss common challenges and best practices in the global healthcare environment.

Second Finance Minister Johari Abdul Ghani brushed off rumours that the government would increase the GST by two percent. “No such thing (hike),” he commented after opening the Seventh Muslim World Biz Exhibition and Conference 2016 in Kuala Lumpur today.

GST was implemented in Malaysia on April 1, 2015. Johari reiterated that the current rate was the lowest in Asean.

On the possibility of adding more items to the list of zero-rated and exempted items, he also said the government would not make any change to the current list for now despite requests by NGOs.

Johari said a study by the authorities revealed that around 80-90 percent of the requested items (to be added to the list of zero rated and exempted items) were mostly used by industries. He explained that the request to include more items in these categories only focused on consumer goods which industries can claim back via a tax refund.
