Fast serial dispensing with the pipetting equipment (option)

Over the years, the Dosimats have made their name primarily as precise titrant dispensers. This precise dispensing is only one of the numerous application possibilities of these instruments, which are used more and more in the fields of synthesis, process optimization and in preparative research laboratories. By combining well proven and new features, the new Dosimats fulfill user requirements optimally. Three new models, 765, 775 and 776, continue the most successful series of Dosimats. The previously used Exchange Units can still be employed with these new instruments and the Dosimat concept is finding new, varied applications in many laboratories.

The spectrum reaches from practically maintenance-free precision pumps to the highly accurate dispensing of the smallest volumes in the analytical laboratory. This applies, for example, to laboratories working in the following fields:

• Analysis

• Biology

• Electroplating

• Environment

• Foodstuffs

• Petrochemicals

• Pharmaceuticals

• Plant and process

• Plastics

• Preparative organic synthesis

• Textiles

High tech and precision

The dosing concept based on glass cylinder and PTFE piston convinces the user by its precision and the chem-ical resistance of the materials involved: The metered liquid only comes into contact with FEP, PCTFE/PTFE, borosilicate glass or ceramic. Moreover, dispensing is performed not only in laboratories, but also in pilot plants and production areas.

You are sure to find, among the new Dosimats, a so-lution to your dispensing requirements.

Precision in titration – just one of the 765 Dosimat’s features

Using this Dosimat, high-precision titration is child’s play. With the keyboard and the stepless manual setting of the dispensing rate, titrations can be performed very fast or very slow, using very small volume increments. As soon as the endpoint is reached, the large backlit display shows not only the volume with a resolution of 0.001 mL but – thanks to the integrated calculation formula – the result can also be displayed.

The integrated calculation formula is:

Result displayed =

(dosed volume in mL – blank value) x factor / sample size

... is a basic operation in every laboratory

765 Dosimat: the versatile connection possibilities illustrate the instrument’s flexibility and universality

Precision pump

There is a whole range of applications for the 765 Dosi-mat in the synthesis laboratory and in the pilot plant, where it plays the role of an «electronic dropping funnel» with the following possibilities:

• Pulse-free dispensing even of corrosive liquids with rates between 0.001 mL/min and 150 mL/min.

• pH- or temperature-controlled dispensing together with the 691 or 713 pH Meter and the 692 pH/Ion Meter.

• With two 765 Dosimats, continuous tandem dis-pensing is possible (maximum dispensing rate 7.6 L/h).

Pipetting, diluting, dispensing

For the auxiliary operations pipetting, diluting and dis-pensing, the 765 Dosimat is equipped with the PIP, DIL and DIS modes. The pipetting equipment available as an option allows this work to be performed rationally with volumes between 0.7 and 10 mL.

A wealth of expansion possibilities

The 765 Dosimat is equipped with an RS 232C data interface as standard, which can be used for con-necting a balance, a printer or a computer. Via a com-puter, all functions of the 765 Dosimat can be remotely controlled, every parameter can be set and recalled together with the dispensed volume and the current instrument status.

The 765 Dosimat is also available with an analog output, e.g. for the plotting of the dispensed volume against time in pH stat work (option).

Via the external dispenser contact, dispensing can be controlled by means of a push-button cable or a TTL signal.

Preparation of standard solutions: the «automatic volumetric flask»

Standard solutions are needed daily in practically every analytical laboratory, e.g. for ion measurements with ISE, voltammetry, photometry, HPLC, IC or spectroscopy. The 765 and 776 Dosi-mats, combined with a balance, allow the automatic preparation of standard solutions in the CNT mode: Simply weigh out the approximate amount of the substance to be dissolved and transfer the weight to the Dosimat, which then calculates the amount of solvent needed and dispenses it.

Automated validation

For the automatic validation of the dosing system, the 765 Dosimat is connected to a balance via its RS 232C interface. The optional 6.6025.000 Dosing Test software controls the au-tomatic dispensing of liquid into a pre-tared vessel placed on an analytical balance. The volume of the dispensed liquid is then calculated and compared with the set volume. The validation re-port conforms to GLP and is printed on the connected printer.

776 Dosimat

The 776 Dosimat can handle all basic functions incor-porated in its «big brother», the 765, except the remote control. Consequently, it can satisfy the numerous dis-pensing requirements that occur in the laboratory and its computing facility is particularly appreciated.

Impressive capabilities

The 776 Dosimat offers the following functions:

• It can dispense, dilute and pipette. The pipetting equipment available as an option facilitates these operations.

• You can match the filling and dispensing rate of the burette to your application, a feature which is espe-cially advantageous with reagents of high viscosity or high density.

• Dispensing with subsequent result calculation – us-ing the dispensed volume – has many applications, e.g. acidity of milk or wine, etc.

• «Automatic volumetric flask» for the preparation of standard solutions, e.g. for voltammetry, photometry, HPLC, IC or spectroscopy.

• If a certain dispensed volume must not be exceeded for safety or other reasons, a limit volume can be set.

• Precision pump working at an exactly defined rate, mastering the majority of dosing tasks involving ag-gressive and/or toxic liquids.

• The 765 and the 776 Dosimats possess a non-volatile memory: 10 complete user-specific methods can be stored with their parameters and recalled by simply pressing a key.

Potentiometric titration to a pre-set pH value, a routine operation in the analytical laboratory

775 Dosimat, the no-frills dispenser – titration stands

Titration stand consisting of 775 Dosimat and 728 Magnetic Stirrer, stand rod and electrode holder

Titration – quite easy

At a favorable price, the 775 Dosimat offers you the advantages essential for dispensing, namely extremely high accuracy and the possibility to use modern Ex-change Units with a flat PCTFE/PTFE or ceramic stopcock. One of its many application possibilities is manual titration.

Manual titration with color indicator or pH meter

Titration is by nature a simple procedure and can be performed by extremely simple means. For example:

Performing titrations with a color indicator using a 775 Dosimat, a 728 Magnetic Stirrer and an Exchange Unit. The stirrer ensures complete mixing; using the push button and the analog rate control, you can dispense the reagent with practically any resolution.

If you wish to follow more closely the change in the pH value during the titration, you will also need a pH meter and a combined pH glass electrode.

Titration stands – with Dosimat and stirrer

For titrations with the 765, 776 and 775 Dosimats, the titration stand versions described below are available as options.

We refer to a conventional titration stand as the combi-nation of a Dosimat, a stand rod with electrode holder and a stirrer. The 765 Dosimat is available as a pure and simple Dosimat or as a Dosimat titration stand; the 776 and 775 Dosimats, on the other hand, are not available directly as Dosimat titration stands, but can naturally be expanded to titration stands with the ap-propriate accessories.

Whether stirring is better performed from above with a propeller or below with a magnet is not a matter of controversy any more. With the 727 Titration Stand you can – depending on the model – stir either from above or below. Simply press the rinsing unit and your burette tip and electrode is thoroughly rinsed.

The 703 Titration Stand is ideal for handling liquids. It combines a magnetic stirrer with a pump. With the manually operated pump, solvent can be added to the titration vessel at the push of a button; on completion of the titration, the spent solution can be siphoned off into a waste bottle. The comprehensive accessories include two GL45 bottle attachments for 1 L reagent bottles from Riedel-de Haën and Baker; adapters for reagent bottles from Merck, Fluka or Fisher are avail-able as options.

Exchange Units for the Dosimat Trio

The 765, 776 and 775 Dosimats can be fitted with the modern Exchange Units from Metrohm. These offer the following advantages:

• No transfer of reagents is needed as the bottles of many different reagent manufacturers can be in-serted into the Exchange Unit. The reagent bottles are connected either with the bottle attachment of the standard equipment or with adapters available as options.

• Two storage vessels made of polyethylene are used to properly store burette tip and electrode on the Exchange Unit.

• Burette cylinder and tubing connections are pro-tected against light.

• A thermostat jacket for the burette cylinder is avail-able as an option.

• The inscription plate shows you at a glance which reagent you are dealing with.

• The PCTFE/PTFE as well as the ceramic stopcock is resistant to most reagents and withstands a back pressure of 200 kPa (2 bar). Depending upon the ver-sion, the metered liquid comes into contact only with glass, FEP and PCTFE/PTFE or ceramic material.
