OUR ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY collects non-perishable food and paper products on the fourth Sunday of each month for Caritas House. Caritas operates a food pantry that feeds 300 needy families living in the 63121 and 63120 zip codes. When you shop this week grab an extra can of tuna or chili, jar of peanut butter, a package of paper towels, or any non-perishable food item or paper product. Diapers and pet food are also appreciated. Bring your donations the weekend of October 24,25. Thank you for your generosity. From the Pastor’s Pen: A joint press release… It would be easier to forget what we have seen, to erase from

our memories and our minds what we have heard. But the state-

ments and actions of Planned Parenthood medical directors and

technicians, captured on film and released by the Center for

Medical Progress, are the kind we will not forget, the kind that

cannot be unseen and unheard.

Like millions of Americans, including those in the Roman Cath-

olic Church and The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, we

have been shaken to the core by what we have witnessed: intact

babies, at times still alive, having their body parts harvested as a

commodity. We are shocked at the image of tiny hands and feet

seen in a glass pie plate. We are horrified at what we have seen

and heard. Such actions and attitudes have no place in our

society.

While offensive, the degradation of the bodies of these infant

human beings is unfortunately just the tip of the iceberg. Those

fetal tissue and organs are only available for sale because they

are being killed through abortion. Over 57 million unborn chil-

dren have been lost to abortion in our nation since 1973.

The toll of these lives lost is enormous. We are missing sons

and daughters, siblings, spouses, coaches, scholars, mentors and

friends. This loss is symptomatic of a loss of respect for human

life in our society today. In so many ways, our culture seeks to

deny the humanity of the unborn, of the elderly or of someone

with a disability.

Together, we stand firm and repeat that every human life is

worthy of dignity and respect. We affirm our continued commit-

ment to offer resources to help parents of any faith background

who are in need of medical, financial or social service assistance

both during pregnancy and after. We stand ready to assist any

parent who wishes to make an adoption plan for their child.

Our commitment is to all life in all its stages from conception

to natural death. For those men and women who participated in

an abortion, we extend to you the words of Jesus: “Come to

me, all who labor and are heavy laden …” (Matt. 11:28), and

we invite you to experience hope and healing from your experi-

ence.

Let us continue to pray for all life, born and unborn.

Prayer Routine

According to Matthew Kelly, “The most dominant quality among Dynamic Catholics is a daily routine of prayer.” Dynam-ic Catholics not only have a time and place to pray, they have a structured way of praying. Dynamic Catholics also begin their day with prayer. Early prayer ensures that the day begins well. Several tools are available: Scripture, Rosary, Liturgy of the Hours, meditation booklets such as Magnificat and Word Among Us, and spiritual books.

MASS FOR HEALING A Mass for healing will be celebrated at Blessed Teresa of Cal-cutta on Wednesday, October 28th at 7:00 p.m. During the cele-bration, Fr. Rosy and a number of others will be available to pray over anyone seeking healing. This practice of “laying on of hands” has been used throughout the history of the church. Please come with your needs, to pray for someone else, or as intercessor for those who are being prayed over. Handicapped accessible.

UMSL Newman Center Corner NEWMAN CENTER IS SELLING RAFFLE TICKETS to benefit Service Opportunities performed by our very own Newman Center Students. We will be sending students to help rebuild a community where 34% of children live in extreme poverty. The tickets are a one-time $100 tax deductible donation. At the end of each month from October—April there will be a $100 prize drawing . The name goes back in the “pot”, and is eligible to win each month. Our first drawing will be October 31, 2015.
