Meladi Brewer (J-Crew)isfromYorkshire,Ohio.Meladiisajour-nalismnewsandinformationmajorwithaminorinforeignhistoryandculture.Herdreamjobistobecomeaforeigncorrespondent.Sheisathird-yearstudentwholoveswriting,broadcastingandeditingvideos.MeladiisinvolvedwiththesportssideofWOUBwheresheisaphotographerforGridironGloryandareporterHardwoodHeroes.MeladirecentlygotbackfromstudyingabroadinSpain.There,shestudiedScreenwritingandDocumentarystory-telling.Shesetupinterviewsandexploreddifferentpartsofthecountry.Afunfactaboutheristhatshehasgottenstitchesinmytongue,anditisherfirstyearaspartoftheJ-Crew.

Grace Brezina (J-Crew)isarisingjuniorstudyingjournalismstrategiccommunicationwithasalescertificate.Shejoinsusasanout-of-statestudentfromGurnee,Illinois.DuringhertimeatOhioUniversity,GracehasbeeninvolvedwithBobcathon,andworksasatourguide.Sheisalsothe2019-2020DirectorofResearchandStrategyfor1804Communication.Thissummer,GraceisworkingasaBobcatStudentOrientationleaderandstudiedabroadlastsummerinFlorence,Italy.ThisisherfirstyearasamemberoftheJ-Crew.

Bill Clackisa1995alumofScripps(BSJ,Broadcasting)andtheTheaterschool(BFA,Directing/Acting.)HealsohasaMastersfromChathamUniversity(MFA,FilmandDigitalArts).PresentlyPittsburghbased,BillistheMedia/WebservicescoordinatoratthePine-RichlandSchoolDistrictandanadjunctprofessoratRobertMorrisUniversity.Heteachesfilmandbroadcasttostudentsrangingfrom4thgradersthroughcollegeseniors.Foradecadeandahalfprior,heworkedinTVnewsasananchorandreporter;breakingintoaTop-20marketfouryearsafterleavingAthens.Interviewingfolksfromlocalschoolboardmemberstopresidential

candidatesoccupiedmostofhisnewscareer.Howeverreporting30+hoursstraight,frominsideacategory2hurricane,wasapersonalhighlight.Billisanadmittedsuper-herogeek.HeandhistwochildrenroutinelycatchthelatestMarvelmovieonopeningnight.

Eddith Dashiell joinedtheE.W.ScrippsSchoolofJournalismfacultyin1992andistheassociatedirectorforundergraduatestudents.ShewasthedirectorofstudiesfortheHonorsTutorialCollegeinjournalismschoolfrom1996-2004anddirectoroftheO.U.summerhighschooljournalismworkshopfrom1993-2000.SheservedasahostofForum,aregionalpublicaffairsprogramatWOUB-TVAthensfrom1996-98.ShealsowonUniversityProfes-soroftheyearin1997-98.

Aimee Edmonson hastaughtatOhioUniversitysince2008.Buildingonadozenyearsofreportingexperience,Dr.Edmond-sonteachesmedialaw,historyanddatajournalismatScripps.Hernewbook,“InSullivan’sShadow:TheUseandAbuseofLibelLawduringtheLongCivilRightsStruggle”willbeoutinAugust.Shehaswonnumerousstate,regionalandnationalawardsforherreporting,primarilyatTheCommercialAppealnewspaperinMemphis,Tenn.She’salsoadatajournalismtrainer,havingheldworkshopsacrosstheglobe,includingKenya,India,China,GermanyandKazakhstan.Sheearnedherbachelor’sdegreefrom

andhe’sourjuniorkeynotespeakerthisweek.

Claire Geary (J-Crew)isasophomorehereatOhioUniversity.Orig-inallyfromAvonLake,shegrewupalongLakeErieandbecameanavidsportsfanatayoungage.Oncampus,sheisanactivememberoftheESPN3/ESPN+Project,BobcatTV(OhioAthletics),CHAARG,aswellasWOUB’sGirdironGloryandHardwoodHeroes.Inherfreetime,shelikestospendtimewithfriends,keepupwithfamilyathome,andwatchthePittsburghSteelersplay.Overthesummer,sheisinterningfortheLakeErieCrushersasanon-fieldEmceefortheballclub.HergoalaftergraduationistobecomeasportsreporterinNashville,Tennesseeorasidelinereporterforamajorbroadcastingnetwork.

Joseph Hennessy (J-Crew)willbeaseniorinthefall.He’sthehostoftheupcomingseasonofGridironGlory,WOUB’saward-winningfootballshow.JoealsoanchorsandworksforHardwoodHeroes,WOUB’ssportsnewscastthatcovershighschoolbasketball.Heisstudyingjournalism:newsandinformationwithaspecializationinelectronicmediaandsociology.Inaddition,heworksasamul-timediajournalistforNewswatchwherehehasproducednewspackagestoairontheliveshowandanchoredthesportsandweathersegment.JoehasbeenreportingonandwritingnewsstoriesforWOUB’swebsitethissummer.HewenttohighschoolinIllinoisandthisisJoe’sfirstyearaspartoftheJ-Crew.

Connor Kurek (J-Crew)willbeaseniorthisfall,studyingbroadcastjournalism.HejustreturnedhomefromstudyingSpanishinToledo,Spain,forhalfthesummer.Beforethat,heinternedattheTODAYShowthispastspring.He’spassionateaboutanythingthatinvolvesacamera,GoProordrone.AtOU,hereportsforWOUB,photographsconcertsoncampusandhefilmed,editedandplannedaninterviewwithAndyGrammer.He’samemberoftheSocietyofProfessionalJournalistsandwonanSPJAwardofExcellenceforoneofhisradionewsstories.ConnoralsointernedwiththeAcademyofModelAeronauticsin2017asavideographer

andasocialmediaplanner.He’sacampustourguideandheattendedtheworkshopasastudentinhighschool.ThisishisthirdyearaspartoftheJ-Crew.

Bryan Kurp (J-Crew)willbeasophomorethisfallstudyingjournal-ismnewsandinformation.BryanisheavilyinvolvedinthesportsdepartmentatWOUB,theon-campusTVstationinAthens.HecoverstheOhioUniversityvolleyball,women’sbasketball,andbaseballteamsforWOUB’sBobcatSportsShowcaseandreportsforGridironGlory,ahighschoolfootballshow,andHardwoodHeroes,ahighschoolbasketballshow.Additionally,BryanisasportsanchorforNewsWatch,thenightlynewscastatWOUB.HegraduatedfromPine-RichlandHighSchool(Gibsonia,PA)andgainedalotofbroadcastingexperienceatthehighschool’sTV

station,PRTV.Bryanattendedtheworkshopasastudentin2017and2018andenjoyednetworkingwithotherstudentsandprofessionals.HeisexcitedtobeamemberoftheJ-Crewforthefirsttimethisyear!

Josh JamersonisanationalpoliticsreporteratTheWallStreetJournal.HislastassignmentatWSJwasonCapitolHill,coveringthehallsofCongressandthebattleforcontrolofitduringthe2018midtermelection.HecoveredcorporatenewsfromNewYorkbeforemovingtoWashingtonin2017.Previously,JoshwasaJamesRestonReportingFellowatTheNewYorkTimes.HisbylinehasalsoappearedinTheColumbusDispatch,theDetroitFreePressandTIME.AtOhioUniversity,hewaslocaleditorandlatersenioreditoratThePost.HegraduatedfromOhioUniversityin2015(BSJ).

David Jablonski isasportswriterandphotographerwhocoverstheDaytonFlyers,OhioStateBuckeyesfootball,theCincinnatiRedsandWittenbergUniversitysportsfortheDaytonDailyNews,SpringfieldNews-Sun,JournalNewsandWHIO.HegraduatedfromtheE.W.ScrippsSchoolofJournalismatOhioUniversityin1999.

Tom McKee spent40yearscoveringtheTri-StateofCincinattiatthenewsstation,WCPO.Anaward-winningseniornewsreporter,Tombecamethemostrespected“manonthestreet”atthesta-tion.He’sservedasamentortocountlessyoungreporters.AnOhioUniversitygrad,hiscareerbeganatage22andhebecameamainstayofWCPO’spoliticscoverage,winningoneofthreenationalWalterCronkiteAwardsin2013.At29,Tomwasthrustintoadramatic,life-or-deathnewsstorywhenagunmantookhimandeightotherstationemployeeshostageinthenewsroom.Thegunmaneventuallyreleasedthehostagesbeforeendinghisown

life,butTomwasnotedforstayingcalmandeveninterviewingthegunman.

Victoria LaPoe isanassistantprofessorinOhioUniversity’sScrippsSchoolofJournalism.Shefocusesonmediadiversity,digitalmediaandmarketingstrategyofmedia.Dr.LaPoeisvicepresidentoftheNativeAmericanJournalistsandaNAJAlifetimemember.Priortoworkinacademia,shewasanaward-winningtelevisionjournalist,workingintheindustryformorethan10years.She’saformerTVnewsproducer,mediaclientstrategistandmarketingcommunicationspecialist.Dr.LaPoeistheco-authorofOilandWater:MediaLessonsfromHurricaneKatrinaandtheDeepwaterHorizonDisaster(2013).Thebookexplores

Hans Meyer isanassociateprofessorinScripps.HereceivedhisPh.D.inJournalismfromtheUniversityofMissouriandhecompletedhisundergraddegreeatBrighamYoungUniversity.HeworkedasgeneralmanagerofTheDesertDispatchinBarstow,California,overseeingemployeesandtheoperationofthe6000-circulationdailynewspaper,whereherefocusedthenews-paper’scoverageonlocalnews.HewastheeditorofTheHesperiaStar,alsoinCali,wherehecreateda15,000-circulationweeklynewspaperfromthegroundup.HewasalsothecityeditoratapaperinUtahandcurrentlyhewritesforhisblog.

Marcy NighswanderhasbeenteachingphotojournalismatOhioUniversity’sSchoolofVisualCommunicationsince1995.ShewasawardedthedistinctionofUniversityProfessorin1998.PriortoteachingatOhioshewasastaffphotographeratTheAssociatedPressWashington,D.C.bureauforsevenyears.WhilethereshewasoneofateamofAPphotographersthatwonaPulitzerPrizeforFeaturePhotographyfortheircoverageofthe1992presiden-tialcampaign.NighswanderisagraduateofBowlingGreenStateUniversityinOhio.ShehasworkedasastaffphotographeratTheReviewTimesinFostoria,Ohio,TheBeaconJournalinAkron,

Ohio,andTheCincinnatiPost.In1977shewasnamedtheOhioNewsPhotographeroftheYear,thefirstwomansohonored.PersonalphotographyprojectsarestillofgreatinteresttoherbutNighswander’sgreatestsatisfactionisinpreparingstudentstobeleadersinphotojournalism.
