Palm Sunday of the Lord's Passion April 9th, 2017

Today, Palm Sunday, marks the beginning of Holy Week. The events of this week remind us of the immense love that was shown to us through the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus. In the gospel for Palm Sunday and Good Friday, the Passion of Jesus is proclaimed. Passion is a word which means “suffering” or “agony” which reflects the depth of the sacrifice which the Lord made for us. On Holy Thursday, we will commemorate the institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper. Immediately following the Last Supper, Jesus makes his way to the Garden of Gethsemane where he engages in intense prayer. He recognizes what is going to happen and asks the Father to allow this evil to pass, “if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will” (Mt. 26:38-39). Jesus asks for the cross to be avoided, but shows himself to be the obedient son. He willingly agrees to take upon himself all the sins of the world. Scripture tells us that this burden was reflected in his sweat which became as drops of blood falling to the ground. It is great act of sacrificial love for someone to step up and suffer for us. It was our sins that caused the innocent Jesus to suffer and his willingness to reconcile the world to the Father speaks to us of his immense and unconditional love, “There is no greater love that this, than to lay down one’s life for a friend” (Jn. 15:13) The challenge of Holy Week is to allow the witness of Jesus to inspire us to sacrifi-cial love. My hope is that as we celebrate the central mysteries of our faith this week, we might be more open to making sacrifices for other people – for family, friends, co-workers and even total strangers. By doing this, we allow the love of Jesus to be perpetuated and made real in our lives today. May we enter this Holy Week with hearts open to the sacrifice and love of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Sincerely, Fr. Miguel Gonzalez

Domingo de Ramos "De la pasión del Señor" 9 de Abril, 2017

Hoy, Domingo de Ramos, marca el comienzo de la Semana Santa. Los acontecimien-tos de esta semana nos recuerdan el inmenso amor que nos fue mostrado a trave s de la pasio n, muerte y resurreccio n de Jesu s. En el evangelio para el Domingo de Ramos y el Viernes Santo, se proclama la Pasio n de Jesu s. La pasio n es una palabra que significa "sufrimiento" o "agoní a" que refleja la profundidad del sacrificio que el Sen or hizo para nosotros. El Jueves Santo, conmemoramos la institucio n de la Eucaristí a en la U ltima Cena. Inmediatamente despue s de la U ltima Cena, Jesu s hace su camino hacia el Jardí n de Getsemaní , donde se dedica intensamente a la oracio n. Reconoce lo que va a ocurrir y pide al Padre que permita que esto no suceda, "si es posible, aparta de mí este ca liz; pero que no se haga mi voluntad si no la tuya "(Mt 26, 38-39). Jesu s pide que se evite la cruz, pero se muestra a sí mismo como el hijo obediente. E l voluntaria-mente acepta tomar sobre sí todos los pecados del mundo. Las Escrituras nos dicen que esta carga se reflejo en su sudor que se convirtio en gotas de sangre cayendo al suelo. Es un gran acto de amor sacrificado para que alguien sufra por nosotros. Fueron nuestros pecados los que hicieron sufrir al inocente Jesu s y su voluntad de reconci-liar al mundo con el Padre nos habla de su amor inmenso e incondicional: "No hay mayor amor, que dar la vida por un amigo" (Juan 15:13) El desafí o de la Semana Santa es permitir que el testimonio de Jesu s nos inspire al amor sacrificado. Mi esperanza es que mientras celebramos los misterios centrales de nuestra fe esta semana, podamos estar ma s abiertos a hacer sacrificios por otras personas, por familiares, amigos, compan eros de trabajo e incluso extran os. Ha-ciendo esto, permitimos que el amor de Jesu s se perpetu e y realice en nuestras vidas hoy.
