Commemorated on December 23

The Ten Holy Martyrs of Crete: Theodulus, Saturninus, Euporus, Gelasius, Eunician, Zoticus, Pompius, Agathopus, Ba-silides and Evaristus suffered for Christ during the third century under the emperor Decius (249-251). The governor of Crete, also named Decius, fiercely persecuted the Church, and arrested anyone who believed in Christ. Once, ten Chris-tians were brought before him from various cities of Crete, who at the trial steadfastly confessed their faith in Christ and refused to worship idols.

For thirty days they were subjected to cruel tortures, and with the help of God they all persevered, glorifying God. Before their death they prayed that the Lord would enlighten their torturers with the light of the true Faith. Since pain did not influ-ence them, the saints were beheaded.

St Paul of Constantinople (November 6) visited Crete about a hundred years later. He took the relics of the holy martyrs to Constantinople to serve as a protection for the city, and a source of blessings for the faithful.

GREETERS MINISTRY

We are looking to expand our Greeters Ministry and we need you! Please prayerfully consider

joining us in directly greeting our guests. We will meet on Sunday, January 10, following Divine

Liturgy, to answer all of your questions. We ask that all current greeters also attend - we will be

reviewing our standard protocols including how to best help one another to welcome those

Christ sends to us. May our efforts only be to the Glory of God! Michael Tabeling

2009 ANGEL TREE THANK YOUThank you so much for another successful year in our Angel Tree/ Merrick House

program! Thank you to all who so generously gave of their time, talents and gifts;

and thank you to those who packed bags on Sunday for the Food Pantry.

God Bless each of you! Daniel Morris, Charities Committee

FOOD PANTRY

We are restarting our FOOD PANTRY in conjunction with Tremont Pointe (formerly Valley View). Some

residents are returning, some residents are new, but some are in need of help. We are asking folks who wish

to help with this specific project to "sponsor" a bag of groceries for $10.

Checks can be made out to St. Theodosius, marked for Food Pantry. The need is smaller now than sev-

eral years ago, but it is still there. God bless you for considering those less fortunate.

Questions to Dan Morris.

What About the “Flu”? There is much concern in the news these days about H1N1 Flu or Swine Flu. I have never feared contracting an

illness from the Holy Chalice for it contains the precious and holy Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. However,

there are many other ways we might come into contact with a virus. We greet each other with a holy kiss, we shake

hands, we hug each other and the children of our community. In other words, we are loving Christians who demon-

strate our love for each other. In anticipation of questions regarding the flu season, please observe the following.

Use common sense! If you have flu symptoms, STAY HOME! This is being absent for an honorable reason or a

reason worthy of a blessing! When you have recovered from the flu, then is the time to return to the community of the

Church. Those who are parents may find that they will be absent frequently during the flu season. From experience I

know how colds and flu re-entered our home from the children’s contact at school. With Fatherly Love, Fr. John

PARKING ANNOUNCEMENT For those having difficulty entering the parking lot from

St. Tikhon street, the St. Olga gate to the parking lot will be open.
