ESD NoticeESD Notice (Electrostatic Static Discharge)(Electrostatic Static Discharge)
Today’s sophisticated electronics are electrostatic discharge (ESD) sensitive. ESD can weaken or damage the electronics in a manner that renders them inoperative or reduces the time until their next failure. Connect an ESD wrist strap to a ground connection point or unpainted metal in the product. Alternatively, you can touch your finger repeatedly to a ground connection point or unpainted metal in the product. Before removing a replacement part from its package, touch the anti-static bag to a ground connection point orremoving a replacement part from its package, touch the anti static bag to a ground connection point or unpainted metal in the product. Handle the electronic control assembly by its edges only. When repackaging a failed electronic control assembly in an anti-static bag, observe these same precautions.

Basic Troubleshooting StepsBasic Troubleshooting Steps
Define, Localize, Isolate and Correct
•Define Look at the symptom carefully and determine what circuits could be causing the failure. Use your senses Sight, Smell, Touch and Hearing. Look for burned parts and check for possible overheated components. Capacitors will sometimes leak dielectric material and give off a distinct odor Frequency of power supplies will change with the load or listen forand give off a distinct odor. Frequency of power supplies will change with the load, or listen for relay closing etc. Observation of the front Power LED may give some clues.
•Localize After carefully checking the symptom and determining the circuits to be checked and after giving a thorough examination using your senses the first check shouldchecked and after giving a thorough examination using your senses the first check should always be the DC Supply Voltages to those circuits under test. Always confirm the supplies are not only the proper level but be sure they are noise free. If the supplies are missing check the resistance for possible short circuits.
•Isolate To further isolate the failure, check for the proper waveforms with the Oscilloscope to make a final determination of the failure. Look for correct Amplitude Phasing and Timing of the signals also check for the proper Duty Cycle of the signals. Sometimes “glitches” or “road bumps” will be an indication of an imminent failureglitches or road bumps will be an indication of an imminent failure.
•Correct The final step is to correct the problem. Be careful of ESD and make sure to check the DC Supplies for proper levels. Make all necessary adjustments and lastly always perform a Safety AC Leakage Test before returning the product back to the Customer

THREE STEP TURN ON PROCESS:Stand-By: STBY_3.5V arrives on main. Powers up MStar (Micro / Video Processor) Reset occurs. Then when a power on from the Key board or IR arrives, 3 step process begins.Step 1) RL_ON: Turns on the SMPS. 12V and 24V 12V arrives on Main, Power_Det sent to Mstar. 1b) MStar turns on IC405 and IC406.Step 2) Panel_CTL: Turns on Panel VCC Q409, sent to panel.Step 3) INV_CTL: Turns on the Backlights, to SMPS then Ballast.
A-DIM Pin 22: (Silk Screened P-DIM) Is not unsed.
Error_Out Pin 20: (Silk Screened A-DIM)Goes high (3.3V) when the backlights are told to come on. Goes back low when they light. If it goes high again on the 5th attempt to fire thebacklights, the set shuts off.

Power Supply Board Test Power Supply Board Test
If 3.5V Standby is not being generated, make sure AC is arriving atthe connector SK101. If it is, the SMPS is defective and must be replaced. There is no need to continue with the next test.next test.
AC Should not be applied at any time while adding jumper or While unplugging connectors as damage to the circuit Board may occur.
(b) Unplug P402 on the Main Board to make insertion of the Jumpers easier. Use P402 Side to insert resistors
TEST PROCEDURE: Backlights will turn on during this test
Pin 1 is the Brown Wire
(A) Add a jumper between (3.5V STBY) pin 7, 8, 9 or 10 and Pin 1 (PWR_ON). Apply AC. This will turn on the power supply, relays will click.a) Check that the 24V and 12V power supplies are turned on,
• P201 (12V pins 17 19 and 21) P201 (24V pins 2 3 and 4) P203 (24V pins 1~5)
Backlights will turn on during this test
• P201 (12V pins 17, 19 and 21) P201 (24V pins 2, 3 and 4) P203 (24V pins 1~5)
The Backlights should turn on at this point. If the 24V and the Inverter On command is arriving at the Ballast, but no backlights, then see Ballast Section for further testing.

SMPS TEST: To Force Power Supply On.
Disconnect P402 on Main Board.Jump pin 1 (PWR_ON) to pin 9, 10, 11 or 12 . This should force the SMPS to the on state. All Voltages should be produced. (24V and 12V to Main. 24V to Inverter). The Backlights should come on.
Note: STBY 3.5V Must be present when AC applied.
