    Changing P6 Settings to Import Budget Costs from Excel into P6

    There is one key step that you have to perform prior to importing budgeted costs. This is under the global change category.

    Before you import your excel spreadsheet you must change this setting.

    1. Select tools then global change

    2 Add a new global change make sure to change it to look like belowMake the Select Subject Area setting Activity Resource Assignments

    Make the parameter setting Resource ID NameMake the is setting equals

    Make the Value the name of your resource

    Make the Then parameter Calculate costs from units Change IS to =

    Change the Parameter/Value to No

    3. Select Change

    This will open a file that will show you the proposed global change with the old values and thenew values and it should look like this.

    4. The old value should be Yes and the New Value should be No. Select Commit Changes

    5. A prompt will appear and asking Would you like to save the log file ? Select No

    Now you can import the excel file.

    3. For the Export Type Select Resources and Resource Assignments.

    5. When the Select Template appears select Modify.

    6. Select which items that you want to export make sure to select Resource ID, Resource Type, Budget Costsand Budgeted Units. Then Select OK

    7. Select Next

    8. Select the location where the file will be exported to and the name of the file.

    9. This is the Summary which gives you the location and file name of your exported file.

    Select Finish

    10. Your next screen should look something like this which tells you your export was successful. Select OK

    MODIFY YOUR EXPORT FILE TO IMPORT INTO P6

    11. Open your excel file and make sure that are working in the TASKSRC tab

    To Import Budgeted Labor Costs enter a value into the Budgeted Cost Column to the target cost column. Make sure that the Resource Type is LABOR.

    To import Budgeted Material Costs enter a value into the Budgeted Cost column make sure the Resource Type is MATERIAL.

    To import Budgeted Non labor Costs enter a value into the Budgeted Cost column make sure that the Resource Type is NONLABOR.

    To import Units enter a value into the Budgeted Units column make sure that the Resource ID is whatever the unit type is i.e. conduit, wire, devices etc.

    12. Save your excel file and then import it into back into P6.
