    KARACHI - At least 72 personnel of law-enforcement agencies became victim of tar-

    geted killings in year 2012, which include 65 of police, four of Intelligence Bureau,

    two personal of Rangers and one of Excise Police.IG police informed this to Sindh

    Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah at a high-level meeting on law and order at the CMSecretariat on Thursday. IG Police Sindh Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari in his presentation

    informed that there were 3,116 offences during the year 2012 which include 2665

    murders, 244 kidnappings for ransom, 98 dacoitee/robberies, 18 bank dacoities and

    89 offences of highways dacoities/robberies. He said that in all, 1702 persons were

    killed during the year 2012 up till September 27 which include 299 of target killing, 54

    of dacoity/robbery or snatching, 1279 persons killed due to personal enmity or any

    reason other than target killing, while there were 70 unknown dead bodies. With re-gard to killings in September, the IGP informed that there were 114 killings up till

    September 27, 2102 which include 16 target killings and 98 other killings. Leghari

    said that during 2012, police conducted 7143 raids and arrested 2462 criminals includ-

    ing 151 target killers. He informed that 263 persons were kidnapped in the province

    in 2012, out of which 245 were recovered and 21 are outstanding.The CM said that

    since last few days, against the activities of criminals, target killers and anti-social ele-

    ments had resurged, which are to be handled with iron hand and strategic

    manners. He said that our efforts should be to curb the activities of criminals and for

    the purpose, law-enforcement agencies and administration should evolve effective

    strategy. Qaim said, Karachi is a big City with rapidly increasing population reach-

    ing near to 3 crore. He appreciated the overall performances of police and rangers

    particularly controlling the situation on September 21. The CM termed the current

    law and order situation as a challenging one and conditions prevailing in the

    province particularly in Karachi which needed to be controlled accordingly so as to

    provide relief to the people, common men, traders, businessmen, industrialists,labour, government employees etc. He said that drastic action be taken against those

    who are indulged in terrorist and criminal activities. Syed Qaim Ali Shah directed

    that the internal and external ways, roads, train transport junctions, bus stands be got

    monitored also the people coming and going from and towards Sindh province be

    properly checked at check posts and all points of borders of province so as to detect

    criminals, ammunitions and drugs. Chief Minister Sindh also directed LEAs to en-

    hance the patrolling by police and rangers not only day time but also at the nighthours so as to crush the criminal activities accordingly. He hoped that the activities

    and actions of terrorists, target killers and criminals be eliminated with prompt mea-

    sures. He further said that there should be random checking of arms, ammunition,

    drugs, in buses, trucks, trains and other sources oftransport all over the province. He

    appreciated that investigation branch in police department has been separated and

    directed that investigation branch be headed by a D.I.G Police. He stressed upon the

    Police department to raise the moral of forces, so as to detect and control the law andorder, and hoped that peace will be restored with Joint efforts of police, rangers,

    LEAs, politicians and general public. He also directed the police and rangers to in-

    crease the number of surprise raids and snap checkings. Chief Minister Sindh also

    emphasized the need to have close liason, cooperation and coordination between in-

    vestigation and information branches of police department. The meeting was attend-

    ed among others by Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Enam Memon, Chief Secre-

    tary Sindh Raja Muhammad Abbas, Director General Rangers Sindh Maj. GenRizwan Akhtar, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Mr. Waseem Ahmed, Additional

    I.G Police Sindh Mr. Iqbal Mehmood, Commissioner Karachi Mr. Roshan Ali Shaikh,

    D.I.Gs of Police of East, West and South and heads of law enforcing agencies.
