Wedding reception venue selection can be a tedious process; there are a lot of factors that you need to consider before you can decide on the right venue to celebrate your big day. Every bride and groom wants to have a dream wedding that fits their budget. Here are some basic guidelines that can help you decide the best suitable venue for your wedding ceremony.

The Location - Close to Home or a Destination Wedding

Most couples want to stick to a location that is central and accessible for most of their guests. Alternatively, if you’re planning to have a destination wedding, you will have to think of different things such as travelling, logistics, accommodation arrangements and costs, etc.

Time – Morning/Evening, Outdoor/IndoorIf you plan to have a day wedding outdoors, make sure the weather is pleasant, else you need to ensure you have made appropriate arrangements – if it’s too cold, a tent should be good to keep the guests away from the cold. Alternatively, if the weather is too hot, you may have to ask your guests to bring along sun glasses and sun screen along. It is recommended to have a reception in the evening in summers since the winds are cool after sunset.

Day – A Wedding on a Weekday or Weekend?

Another very important thing that can help you narrow down you venue choices is the day. If you’re planning to have a weekend wedding, you may want to consider off peak hours to prevent your guests driving down to the venue getting stuck in a traffic jam. Also, it is smart to provide a scaled map of directions to the venue; this will help save time for your guests.

Lodging – where will your guests stay?

This is extremely important if you’re having a destination wedding. You would need a confirmed list of guests to ensure you can make appropriate arrangements at the nearby hotels, motels, or lodges. Politely remind your guests to RSVP or confirm their presence at least a week before, so you can make room for them on the wedding.

Wedding Planner – Wedding planner or Wedding Day Coordinator

A wedding planner may be able to offer great help, especially for a destination wedding. You will need someone to take care of onsite arrangements on the big day. They are also wedding day coordinators who are responsible to ensure everything is on time and goes smooth. They may be able to get you discounts from various vendors as they have a long list of contacts because of their business.

Food & Drinks – ala carte, Buffet or Wedding Brunch?

The location you choose should match your style. If you plan a casual day wedding, then may be a wedding brunch would be ideal as it would keep you under the budget while allowing you to offer more variety of savory and sweet dishes to your guests. On the other hand, you may prefer a buffet or ala carte if the wedding is indoors and you want a more formal get together.

Special Requirements – Diet preferences based on health, age, religion, etc.

Whichever location you choose, you may want to consider it to be friendly for your guests. If you have more elderly or disabled, you may want a location that is accessible for all ages and people. Also, if you have guests that are vegetarian, require kosher food, you may want to have that accommodated too. Also, ask if you can have liquor at the location; some places have strict rules so you need to know this beforehand.

All of these guidelines can help you shortlist the places where you would like to say your nuptials. At the end of the day, choose the one that best fits your needs and is the closest match to your dream wedding reception venue.
