Ratio
A ratio compares values.
A ratio says how much of one thing there is compared to another thing.
**Can be written 3 different ways:
3 to 2 3:2 3/2
![Page 7: 7 th Grade Math Week of 12/7/14 Information from : Purple Math, Holt Rinehart Winston TB, Math-Aides](https://reader030.vdocuments.mx/reader030/viewer/2022032605/56649e765503460f94b77aef/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
Rate
It is a comparison of measurements that have different units, like cents and grams.
Example: 420 miles in 6 hours
420 mi/ 6 hrs
UNIT RATE
A unit rate is a rate with a denominator of 1.
Example: 420 miles in 6 hours *divide 420/6
70 miles per 1 hour 70mi/1hr
![Page 8: 7 th Grade Math Week of 12/7/14 Information from : Purple Math, Holt Rinehart Winston TB, Math-Aides](https://reader030.vdocuments.mx/reader030/viewer/2022032605/56649e765503460f94b77aef/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
Proportion
Proportion states that two ratios are equivalent.
4 12
9 = 27
You can find equivalent proportions by:
Scaling, cross multiplying, or simplifying
![Page 9: 7 th Grade Math Week of 12/7/14 Information from : Purple Math, Holt Rinehart Winston TB, Math-Aides](https://reader030.vdocuments.mx/reader030/viewer/2022032605/56649e765503460f94b77aef/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Solving Proportions
12 x
7 = 28
7x = 12(28) write an equation by cross multiplying1
7x = 336
÷7 ÷7
x = 48
![Page 10: 7 th Grade Math Week of 12/7/14 Information from : Purple Math, Holt Rinehart Winston TB, Math-Aides](https://reader030.vdocuments.mx/reader030/viewer/2022032605/56649e765503460f94b77aef/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Solving Proportions
12 x
7 = 28
solve by scaling
7 x 4 = 28
12 x 4 = 48

Similar Figures have the same shape but can be different sizes. The symbol ~ means similar.
![Page 18: 7 th Grade Math Week of 12/7/14 Information from : Purple Math, Holt Rinehart Winston TB, Math-Aides](https://reader030.vdocuments.mx/reader030/viewer/2022032605/56649e765503460f94b77aef/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
Similar Triangles
Corresponding Angles: The angles that are in the same position on two different figures.
Corresponding Sides: The sides that are in the same position on two different figures.
**sides must be proportional
