Homework:Summarize in a paragraph the 3 types of Economic Systems

Economics 4aReview

Page 8: 7 th Grade Honors S.S. Nikki Miller Seaford Middle School

Resources: Watch first 7 min: Intro to Econ Nature of Economics

GDP: Gross Domestic Product: this is how much a country produces in one year (determines the wealth of a country)

Caste System: To keep this simple it is a social structure. Commonly seen in India, people “belong” to a place within society and you interact with the people in your “level”. This is a cultural value, therefore reflects typically a Traditional Economy.

Lets go over some of the Huhs?

Page 9: 7 th Grade Honors S.S. Nikki Miller Seaford Middle School

No country is purely traditional, command, or market.

Economic Systems are needed because scarcity forces us to decide:

- What - How - For Whom TO PRODUCE

Stack 2 sheet of scrap paper Using the ruler and pencil mark three dots

at 1.5”, 5.5”, & 9.5” (along the long side of the paper)

Using single-hole punch, punch a hole at each of the 3 dots

Slip a paper clip through the middle hole to hold the two pieces of paper together.

For decoration, draw a flower around each of the other two holes using the pen

How to produce widgets

Page 14: 7 th Grade Honors S.S. Nikki Miller Seaford Middle School

What are some ways you could organize widget production?

Describe another method which could be used?

What are the inputs (factors of production) needed to produce widgets?

Lets discuss your production plan…

Page 15: 7 th Grade Honors S.S. Nikki Miller Seaford Middle School

What are some ways you could organize widget production? Divide labor in order to specialize

Describe another method which could be used? Craftsperson method where one person performs just ALL steps in production process

What are the inputs (factors of production) needed to produce widgets? Paper, pencil, ruler, single-hole punch, pen, paper clips, workers, a place to work

Lets discuss your production plan…

Page 16: 7 th Grade Honors S.S. Nikki Miller Seaford Middle School

CRAFTSPERSON SPECIALISTS

•Produce widgets but do not divide the work. •Each person will produce their own widgets from the first step to the last.•SUPPLIES WILL BE SHARED BUT NOT LABOR

•Each person will do a part of the production process•Share labor and materials

Specifics of your job…

Page 17: 7 th Grade Honors S.S. Nikki Miller Seaford Middle School

Read your homework to your shoulder partner.

Once you both have read your homework discuss:

Who makes the decisions in a traditional economy, command economy, market economy?

Warm UP

Page 18: 7 th Grade Honors S.S. Nikki Miller Seaford Middle School

You will have 2 minutes to produce as many widgets as possible

Make sure they look perfect I will be inspecting them and rejecting ones that do not meet the standard.

You will be paid for your groups output of widgets

For every correct widget your group produced you will receive payment.

Page 22: 7 th Grade Honors S.S. Nikki Miller Seaford Middle School

In this round you will try to improve productivity, but you may not change the basic method of production or use more materials

How can we increase productivity?

Page 23: 7 th Grade Honors S.S. Nikki Miller Seaford Middle School
