Scientology

The literal definition of scientology comes from a mixture of

both Latin and Greek. In Latin, Scio means knowing in the fullest

sense of the word and the Greek word Logos means study of.

Literally, scientology means knowing how to know.

Scientology was created by L. Ron Hubbard, a science fiction

writer in 1952.

Scientology started off as a religion and is now classified as a

cult. It offers a precise path leading to an outright understanding of

one’s true spiritual nature and relationship to self, family, groups,

mankind, all life forms, the material universe, the spiritual universe

and the Supreme Being.

Scientology comprises a body of knowledge which extends from certain fundamental truths.

Prime among these are:

o Man is an immortal spiritual

being.

o His experience extends well

beyond a single lifetime.

His capabilities are unlimited,

even if not presently realized.

The main teaching of scientology

is that people are immortal

beings who have forgotten their true nature. Its method of ‘spiritual rehabilitation’ is known as

auditing and is a type of counselling. In this process, practitioners aim to consciously re-

experience painful or traumatic past events in order to free members from their limiting

effects.

These auditing sessions and the study materials relating to scientology are available to

members on a fee-for-service basis, which the church describes as a fixed donation.

Scientology is also completely tax exempt.

Scientology addresses the spirit rather than the body or the mind and believes that man is far

more than a product of his environment or genes.
