Education After World War II:

George Washington High School started its postwar years at the heavily damaged pre-war school building in Agana. Its roof and parts of its walls were gone. Students help government workers put up tarpaulin roof and galvanized tin sidings in an effort to keep the weather out. The canvas roof didn’t really help for the tropical sun and rain. Classrooms became unbearably hot in sunny days, even for students that lived on Guam and teachers who were used to tropical heat. When it rained, the canvas sagged in places, dripping water into the rooms. The first postwar high school graduation took place on June 30, 1946, at the stage of the Gaiety Theatre in Sinajana, an outdoor theatre built and owned by the Johnston family. The navy brought in stateside staffs and teachers to George Washington and Adelup Elementary School. The school year 1946- 1947 said the opening of Guam's first full-time normal school for the teachers

Guam is an unincorporated territory of the United States.

Chamorros heavenly influenced by the Spanish occupation and the Catholic Church. Guam is governed by a popularly elected governor and a unicameral 15-member legislature whose members are known as senators. U.S. citizens in Guam vote in a straw poll for their choice in the U.S. Presidential general election. In the 1980's and early 1990's, there was a significant movement in favor of the territory becoming a commonwealth, which would give it a level of self-government similar to Puerto Rico and the Northern Mariana Islands. The federal government rejected the version of a commonwealth that the government of Guam proposed due to it having clauses incompatible with the territorial clause. Unincorporated Territory

In the contemporary sense, the term "unincorporated territory" refers primarily to insular areas. There is currently only one incorporated territory, Palmyra Atoll, which is not an organized territory. Conversely, a territory can be organized without being an incorporated territory, a contemporary example being Puerto Rico.

July 1, 1950- The Guam Organic Act came into effect, organizing Guam as an

unincorporated territory.

July 25, 1952- Puerto Rico became a commonwealth of the U.S. an unincorporated

organized territory with the ratification of its Constitution.

July 22, 1954- The organic Act for the United States Virgin Islands goes into effect,

making them an unincorporated organized territory.

In the end the allied side won.

The men fought in the war, women took over men's jobs and when the men came back the women kept the jobs. Women eventually won the right to become equal so life was probably better than before the war started because women had their freedom. -Although many women took over them ens jobs during World War Two, once the war was over, the vast majority of them returned to traditional roles as homemakers or they were forced to take jobs as a lower-level service, with no skill requirement and meager pay. -During the World War Two, it was difficult for many women to continue to work, because there was no system in place to pick up The Burden Of Children. The term "Juvenile Delinguent" was coined during this time of period as the media reported on rowing bands of children with no parents supervision.

-Families changed a lot because the mean would leave to go to war. When the father of the house is not home children & wives get lonely & sometimes frightened. One reason children would get frightened is because there father is not there to protect them, only their mother, but the father is more secure feeling.

-The family unit changed dramatically during world war two because women were needed to take over factory jobs. Not to mention women were treated with a new respect that they did not have before. The family unit became the center of American Patriotism & was the cusion to fall back on when something terrible happened. It was the only thing that provided security and protection, “ Together We Stand, Divided We Fall”.

-Rationing & women had to do most of the work (the men went off to war)

-After World War II, there was a greater emphasis on family life. Mass consumerism,

with products such as radios, automobiles & telephones supported family leisure activities and increased family time. Also, greater education was stressed. However, the authority of parents declined as greater emphasis was placed on fathers as well as mothers in the work force.

-World War two changed a lot of things in America. The lives of many people like the blacks & other minorities were changed as a result of World War two. World War 2 also made America a better country because it gained respect from other countries.
