Last Sunday, Richard Anniss, the apos-
tle to us as a church, shared the impor-
tance of never giving up on our vision.
Richard began by suggesting that there
is no point ‘moving on’ to a new vision
statement simply for the sake of it, es-
pecially if the vision we already have
remains partially unfulfilled. He asked
the church to sum up in some phrases
what we were about as a church here
in Salford, and then asked whether we
actually BELIEVED that it can be
achieved.
Richard then read 2 Corinthians 5:15-
21. He said this was a great summary
of the gospel; that we are reconciled
and restored to God so that He can in
turn make His appeal to others to live
a life free from serving their own de-
sires and needs and focus on God’s
kingdom. As New Life Church, we are
called to celebrate the new life we
have been given to the full; to be a
happy and exuberant people who rep-
resent life in the Kingdom accurately.
We should hold out the word of life to
the world around us (Philippians 2:16).
Richard looked at how life triumphs
over death. In Matthew 16:15-19, Je-
sus describes how the defensive gates
of death (Hades) cannot withstand the
church in her resurrection power! Russ Bennett
Never give up bringing new life to Salford!
The church (you and I) is destined to
turn signs and symptoms of death such
as sin, dead religion, wickedness, lone-
liness and depression back to life as
people are brought back to God and
His Kingdom of righteousness, peace
and joy in the Holy Spirit. Our new life
isn’t simply the name of our local
church, it’s the very identity and DNA
of who we are and the mission we are
caught up in and sent on! New life re-
produces new life!
Richard discussed how we can practi-
cally cultivate our life so that our new
life flows out of us unhindered. In John
15 we are told to ABIDE in Christ so we
will produce much fruit; in John 6:63
Jesus describes how it is only through
the work of the Holy Spirit that life is
produced—our natural selves apart
from His work counts for nothing in
the Kingdom.
Richard exhorted us to ‘sow to the
Spirit to reap the things of the
Spirit’ (Gal. 6:7-9), i.e. time in prayer
and reading the Bible, speaking in
tongues and fellowship, worship and
service.
We must NEVER EVER GIVE UP in our
pursuit of demonstrating to the world
that Jesus is alive and the Lord of all!
