The conventions on my magazine I chose were different from the example

we got. Fashion magazine set the layout out differently with the headline to

the right rather than in the centre.

The photo and the anchorage link together to give information of what the

picture is meaning.

In my magazine on the tag lines and headlines give you information on howto improve your looks and about men.

The most important on the front cover is the picture and the masthead. This

is to grab your attention.

They use language the reader would be able to understand and what is

relevant to the information inside.

How front covers are conceived and laid out

Direct mode of

address can appear

‘in yer face’ , serious, warm…

Indirect mode of

address can be

mysterious,lively, sombre…

Creates a wacky, fun

image, sharing an

identity with thereader that offers

 the ‘independence’ of

indie music.

Enigma – what are they getting up to

now?

COLOUR –

Red and white and black are the main colour that is used on thecover. The background is often a light colour but can change. The red is used

for the main title and the black and white for extra information.

FONTS – On the three cover I have, there is about 2 or 3 different fonts at

most. One font used is to show the artists name which appears on the cover.

STYLE –

The cover looks very busy, something is happening in all points of the cover. The image adds extra detail/information to the text. 2 out of the 3

images are close ups on the artists face. The other is a medium close up where

the body is shown. The images look to be intriguing and make you want to look

at what the image is about.

USE OF SPACE  – In my three covers, the right  – third side dominates the left,

however there is a typical use of thirds used other than that with the mastheadtop  – left. The layout is very chaotic with very little dead space if not any.

CONCLUDE –  I think the cover is designed as it is to catch the readers

attention. It challenges the typical conventions with the main headline being in

the bottom of the thirds. The cover is stylish and fun which makes people more

drawn to looking at it.
