Christian Programs For Inner-City Children

Page 3: 6833 West Fond du Lac Ave

The Minority Christian CoachesAssociation (MCCA) continues to focus our efforts on the heartand soul of inner-city ministry…the empowerment of families and children throughemployment training, education and spiritualenlightenment. Reaching nearly 4,000 children andfamilies is only scratching the surface when it comes to theneeds of Milwaukee. As Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS)continues to cut school budgets the need for our servicesincreases even more. Nearly 40 MPS sites now offer ourTeam Fitness program which provides health and wellnessclasses to students in elementary and middle school.

Our goal is to direct many of these young people intoour Christian programs like the Weekend Adventurers,Student Internship,Team Leagues,Vision Quest and theGifts of Love. Once children are in these programs we arethen able to offer bible studies, college tours andleadership camps. Most of the inner-city children we serve are given scholarships to attend these programs.

Thousands of children are being impacted because of the support of foundations, businesses, individuals andchurches who partner with our ministry. It pleases me to

present to our faithful partners,Leaders In Action, the MCCA annualprogram booklet. I pray you find theinformation within both inspirationaland spiritually refreshing.

Program OutlookThe Youth Internship program is designed to givedisadvantaged children the chance to prepare for theworkforce by enhancing their personal skills while givingback to the community. Each year the MCCA activelyseeks out young men and women who have played onorganized sports teams, to participate in the program.

Each intern collaborates with their supervisor to developa curriculum/work plan designed to make the focus of theinternship specific to the student’s targeted learningobjectives. Once on the job, the type of work given to theintern integrates the curriculum/work plan and includeschallenging projects and tasks that are both meaningfuland stimulating.

BenefitsRecent studies have shown that mentoring orapprenticeship programs can motivate students. MCCAbelieves that when students identify learning with skillsthat are personally fulfilling and meaningful, they will morelikely contribute to the workforce. Getting involved in thelearning process at an early age helps interns in thefollowing areas:

• Increase their individual market value for future employment

• See the relevance of certain knowledge and skillsneeded for the workforce

• Become more interested in personal education and self improvement

• Decline in teen crime and criminal offenses • Increase knowledge of community ownership

and responsibility

Christian Programs for Inner-City Children Campaign

Please join MCCA in thanking our community partners and faithful supporters.

Above: Long time MCCA supporters Denise & Sandy Kuester

with Rafeal Andrews at the Annual Faithful Servant Awards Dinner

Faithful Commitment and Charitable GivingAs MCCA began to provide programs and servicesin the Milwaukee area, it was very difficult to gainthe support of business leaders and localfoundations. Most community philanthropist won’teven come near you if you haven’t had a certifiedaudit let alone your 501(3) non-profit status.

That wasn’t the case with Denise and SandyKuester. When I approached the family a few yearsago they really believed in me and the vision I hadfor MCCA. I didn’t have all the necessities of astable non-profit or the required structure toreceive donations from their local family foundation,so we had to have a fiscal agency handle all ourdonations and financials.

Over the years MCCA obtained its non-profitstatus and the support of other individuals andfoundations. Thanks to the Kuester family andothers like them we have survived the start upphase of our organization and gaining momentum. It just goes to show how faithful committedcommunity leaders can provide the foundation fornew and up coming agencies at a grassroots level.

Thank you for helping the MCCA provide leadershipopportunities, service and employment training.

Thank You!

Don’t ever under estimate the power of a single seed ofhope, especially when planted in the life of someone whowants to believe.

At 20 years old and just expelled from college with a 1.0,I had no reason to believe my future would offer meanything good. A few months after arriving in Milwaukee,God opened a door to the Reggie White family’s homewhich led to me getting saved and giving my life to the Lord.

Sara and Reggie even allowed me to stay with their familyover the next few years during the football season. Fromthe beginning they believed in me. Sara always spokewords of hope and greater purpose to me.

With the help and encouragement of the White’s I wentback to college and started a youth mentoring programwhich eventually became MCCA.

I’d like to thank Reggie and Sara for their commitment tohelping me and believing God would give me a greaterpurpose. I believe Jesus Christ is doing the same thing inthe lives of the families touched by our ministry today. We are able to plant seeds of hope in the lives ofthousands of children and families because of the simpleobedience of this couple.
