FORT SMITHLITTLE THEATRE

History of the FSLT Harlequin ManIn the early 1960s, Al Reis, owner of Reis Art Gallery and School, and JayAnderson, one of his instructors, created the piece of sculpture that has come tobe known as the Harlequin Man. It stood outside our first theatre on North “O”Street for more than two decades, and thus became a symbol of FSLT.Unfortunately, over the years, the elements took their toll. When we moved toour current location on North 6th Street, a patron, Louis Robinson, cleaned andrepainted it before moving it to our new lobby in 1987. In 1994, thanks to thelate Mickey Suggs, the structure was repaired and glass was replaced. In 2013,the Harlequin Man underwent a facelift sponsored by Paula and Steve Sharum.Following repairs made by Bob Wright Stained Glass, the Harlequin Man wasthen moved to a place of honor as part of our lobby renovation. Positioned on araised platform in our center window, the colorful symbol of our theatre is nowprominently displayed for all FSLT patrons to enjoy.

An adaptation of Jane Austen’s much-loved novel that revolves around love and heartbreak. Set in England in the late 1700s, this work of romantic fiction follows sisters, Elinor and Marianne Dashwood. When their once-wealthy family is thrust into sudden destitution, they are forced to seek financial security through marriage. Evenings: March 30•, 31, April 1, 5-8 Sunday Matinee: April 2Things My Mother Taught Me by K. DiSavino Directed by Ian Miller

After driving halfway across the country, a young couple is moving into their first apartment together. Imagine their surprise when all their parents show up to help! Funny and touching, this true-to-life comedy about love and family will hit close to home. After all, we’ve all had a mother. Evenings: June 1•, 2-3, 7-10 Sunday Matinee: June 4Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl Directed by Summer Ferguson

The classical Greek myth of Orpheus is reimagined through the eyes of its heroine. Dying too young on her wedding day, Eurydice must journey to the underworld, where she reunites with her father and struggles to remember her lost love. With ingenious plot twists, it’s a fresh look at a timeless love story.

Evenings: July 27•, 28-29, Aug. 2-5, 10-12 Sunday Matinees: July 30, Aug. 6The Secret Garden (musical) Musical Director-George Mann,Stage Director-Carole Rogers. Adapted from Frances Hodgson Burnett’s novel, Music/Lyrics by Lucy Simon and Marsha Norman.

This Tony Award-Winning musical is based on the classic children’s novel. Orphaned in India, Mary Lennox returns to Yorkshire to live with her reclusive uncle and his invalid son. The estate’s magic garden beckons the children with haunting melodies and spirits from Mary’s past who guide her in her new life. Evenings: Sept. 21•, 22-23, 27-30 Sunday Matinee: Sept. 24Making God Laugh by Sean Grennan Directed by Lora Rice

In one typical family, empty-nester parents and their adult children are all dealing with changes, hopes, and dreams. As time marches on, they learn that, despite making plans, we often arrive at unexpected destinations. An honest look at family life layered with real humor, real people, and real meaning. Evenings: Nov. 9•, 10-11, 15-18 Sunday Matinee: Nov. 12The Odd Couple (female version) by Neil Simon Directed by Eric Wells

Unger and Madison are at it again – but with a twist. In Neil Simon’s female version of his comic classic, we follow the lives of Olive Madison, a slobbish divorcee, and Florence Unger, a stickler for neatness, as they clash and crash into hilarity. Simon always entertains and never disappoints.

Since 1 7, volunteers at the Fort Smith Little Theatre have donated time and talent, while our patrons have generously provided financial support through gifts and ticket sales. Many persons, for many years, have worked hard to keep FSLT alive and well. It is now our challenge to prepare for the future of our community theatre by building our permanent endowment. Endowment fund monies are invested, with only the earnings spent. The purpose is not to replace traditional funding, but to endow a perpetual fund to support and expand theatrical programs, meet facility demands, and ensure affordable ticket prices. The FSLT Endowment Fund is invested by the Arkansas Community Foundation, Inc., a publicly supported non-profit organi ation that develops, manages, and distributes charitable funds. Founded in 1 7 , ARCF is responsible for more than 1, 00 charitable funds totaling over million in assets. Contributions can be made to our Endowment in any form – cash, securities, real estate, insurance and more. When you review your estate plan, or write your will, please remember that even a small be uest to our Endowment will be a gift to many, for many years to come. Season2017
