March 25, 201 1 Sparks 67 By Kyle Cognion Who will be the team to cut down the nets at the end of March Madness? There will be 68 teams entering; only one will prevail. I really like the sty le of play that Duke has. Senior guard Nolan Smith is averag- ing 22 points and 5 assists a game. Senior forward Kyle Singler is also averaging 16 points and 6 boards. They have a record of 27- , while one of their losses came to rival orth Carolina. Texas is the team ’m rooting for this year. The Long- horns are 25- 6, with two losses coming from top 15 teams. All three of their top players are underclassmen, which is a little sketchy. Jordan Hamilton is the player everyone is focused on. Even though he is only a sophmore, this is his first year starting, and he is dropping 19 points and grabbing 7 boards. Tristian Thompson, the dominating freshman center is averaging 14 points, 9 boards, and 2.5 blocks so far this year. Cory Joseph is also doing work, dropping 12 points and dishing out 4 assists a game. So look for the University of Texas to make a run deep into the tournament. Ohio State is the number one ranked team in the nation as of now. They are an amazing basketball team, their record proves that. Going 29-2, the only two losses were to Purdue and Wisconsin (both teams are ranked in the top 25). Jared Sullinger is the big man on campus this year. He is the top ranked freshman center, averaging 17 points and 10 boards. David Lighty and William Buford are also having an exceptional year for the Buckeyes. I’m betting that this is their year. BYU is a team who is going to be overlooked this year. Their record shows that they are a phenomenal team, 28-3. Jimmer Fredette is looking like the nation’s most prestigous player this year. He is BYU basketball, averaging 29 points and 6 assists a game. But teamate Justin Emry is helping out with his 13 ppg and 4 A PG . So look for it to be Jimmer time this year. I’m pumped for March Madness. March madness  March madness  March madness  March madness  March madness  Who would you most like to have as your point guard? And why?
