*Call to Worship2 Psalm 95:1 – 2; 6 – 7

For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken. For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken.

*Prayer of Adoration and Invocation Elder Johnny Barrett

*Hymn of Praise “The Sands of Time Are Sinking” Cousin/Palmertree

2 We believe that God always initiates with sinners, so we begin worship with His invitation and command to us to gather in His name.

Call to Confession Revelation 3:15 – 19

“‘I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see. Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent.

Silent Confession of Sin

Corporate Confession of Sin

All-Searching God, You read the heart, view principles and motives of actions; see more defilement in my duties than I ever saw in any of my sins. I am ready to flee from myself because of my abominations; yet You do not abhor me but has devised means for my return to You, and that by Your Son, who died to give me life. In Him mercy and truth meet together, and righteousness and peace kiss each other. In him the enslaved find redemption, the guilty pardon, the unholy renovation; in Him are everlasting strength for the weak, unsearchable riches for the needy, treasures of wisdom and knowledge for the ignorant, fullness for the empty. Without the pardon of my sin I cannot rest satisfied; without the renovation of my nature by grace I can never rest easy. All this I have in Your Son Jesus; blessed be His name. Amen.

Offertory Prayer Deacon Errol Sayre

*Hymn of Praise “Doxology” Bourgeois/Ken

Children’s Church Dismissal3

Pastoral Prayer Elder Johnny Barrett

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom Come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. AMEN

Sermon I Corinthians 1:1 – 17 Pastor Curt Presley

3 Children’s Church is a special opportunity we provide for children three to four years of age to help them and their parents make the transition from the nursery to “big church”. They are dismissed with the help of a parent after the collection of tithes and offering to the gym to where they will participate in the singing of the Doxology, praying the Lord’s Prayer, a Bible story, snack, and a brief play period to get some energy out. This is not a “babysitting” time, but to help them grow and mature as worshipers of God that He has created them to be. After Children’s Church they will be led back into the sanctuary to be with their parents for the closing hymn. Please note that Children’s Church is an option for you and your child. If you would choose to keep your child with you for the entire service and not have them participate in Children’s Church we support that as well!

Postlude

4 The bread and juice you see on the Communion table may not look like much to the casual observer. In fact, it is merely bread and juice. What makes this meal special is that the Lord Jesus Christ is spiritually present in a unique way. This sacrament is not something to be taken lightly but neither is it a time to be somber; rather, we should be filled with thankfulness and joy. Our Savior, out of His great mercy, bids His people to come to this meal. If you are a member of a church who embraces the Gospel of Jesus Christ and are at peace with your fellow Christians, we welcome you to this table. Come and consider with us our Lord’s body and shed blood symbolized in the bread and juice. Rejoice with us in our union with Him and with each other as His Covenant people. For those not taking Communion today, we encourage you to carefully think on the prayers found in the section of the worship folder entitled: “Prayers and Reflections for Those Not Communing”, and we look forward to the day when you may join us in this meal.

5 Just as God has the first word in worship, He also has the last word. For those who are in Christ Jesus, these are always words of blessing. We look up and extend our hands out in a posture of receiving the blessing of God.

Sermon Passage I Corinthians 1:1 – 17

Paul, called by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus, and our brother Sosthenes, 2 To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours: 3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 4 I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus, 5 that in every way you were enriched in him in all speech and all knowledge— 6 even as the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you— 7 so that you are not lacking in any gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 8 who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. 10 I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment. 11 For it has been reported to me by Chloe's people that there is quarreling among you, my brothers. 12 What I mean is that each one of you says, “I follow Paul,” or “I follow Apollos,” or “I follow Cephas,” or “I follow Christ.” 13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 so that no one may say that you were baptized in my name.16 (I did baptize also the household of Stephanas. Beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized anyone else.) 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

Sermon Notes

Prayers and Reflections for Those Not Communing

Prayer for Covenant Children Who Have Not Yet Professed Faith in Christ

Lord Jesus, thank you for placing me inside your family, the church. Help me more and more to know you, to love you, and to follow you as your faithful disciple. AMEN

Prayer for Those Searching for Truth

Lord Jesus, you claim to be the way, the truth, and the life. If what you claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and open to me the reality of who you are. Grant that I might be undaunted by the cost of following you as I consider the reasons for doing so. Give me an understanding of you that is coherent, convincing, and that leads to the life that you promise. AMEN

Prayer of Belief

Lord Jesus, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever before believed, but, through you, I can be more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope. I thank you for paying my debt, bearing my punishment on the cross and offering forgiveness and new life. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sins and receive you as Savior and Lord. I now resolve in humble reliance on the Holy Spirit to seek to walk in a manner pleasing to you. AMEN

Prayer for Those Struggling with Sin

Lord Jesus, grant that I may see in you the fulfillment of all my need, and may turn from every false satisfaction to feed on you, the true and living bread. Enable me to lay aside the sin that clings so closely, and run with perseverance the race set before me, looking to you, the pioneer and perfecter of my faith. AMEN

Prayer of Commitment

Lord Jesus, you have called us to follow you in baptism and in a life of committed discipleship in your church. Grant me the faith I need to trust in You alone, cling to your promises as though they are my own, and live in the fullness of your Spirit. AMEN

- Adult Sunday School - * Is Jesus Really Enough?” (Colossians) Instinctively, your answer would likely be, “of course!” But it’s one thing to mentally say yes; it’s quite another to truly live in the reality of an all-sufficient Savior. The book of Colossians speaks definitively to this, so join us this quarter as we learn together. Taught by Steve Hurdle & Micah Everett.

* Suffering & Sovereignty (Job) C.S. Lewis once wrote, “if only this toothache would go away, I could write another chapter on the problem of pain.” All of us can relate to the issue of suffering in some way. The book of Job gives us an answer, perhaps not the one we want, but the one we desperately need. Join us as we learn from the ancient yet timeless wisdom of this book. Taught by Melvin Manickavasagam & Steve Redding
