Steeped in history, the cobblestone streets of the walled Old Town welcome you to explore Cartagena’s open air markets, friendly cevicherias and brightly-coloured colonial buildings, including the church of San Pedro with its unique dome, even more beautiful seen from the inside.

Set in a coastal valley surrounded by nature reserves and stunning historical and pre-historical landmarks - including the Candelabra of the Andes shown here - Pisco is a gentle colonial town that gives its name to a slightly less gentle drink, the Pisco Sour, made with a dash of the area’s famed, and delicious, grape brandy.

As you near the end of the world, land gives way to ice as you make the journey through the Chilean fjords to arrive at the Garibaldi Glacier, an immense blue-white river, frozen in time, trapped between mountain and sea.

On the Sicilian shore of the Ionian Sea, Siracusa is a rare gem of a city, with one of the world’s only Roman amphitheatres overlooking the water. A gem within a gem, the small historical island of Ortigia features the Cathedral while hiding away lots of small alleyways riddled with intimate trattorias and cafés.

A city made from water, Porto is where the Atlantic Ocean and Douro River connect, with restaurants and cafés lining both seaside and riverside. The old part of town, Ribeira, welcomes you with a spot of port wine and a mix of narrow cobbled streets spilling into the homes of shopkeepers and small friendly cafeterias.

Tangier is where Europe and Africa meet, with most of these meetings held in the small vibrant shops of the ville nouvelle or in the labyrinthine alleyways of the ancient walled city, the Medina. Sit and relax in a teahouse or two before visiting the legendary Kasbah, with its gargantuan imposing walls and Arabesque gate door.
