Figure 1: Schematic of Pelton turbine

Our progress: We have been trying to build the hydraulic turbine which I have shown in the picture on the last page.In this turbine there are different parts which I have also shown on the last page. The main parts are Turbine wheel Generator Water storing tank (we can use rain water and store it in this tank, but if it is not raining then we will use the water from anywhere like from tab water. Generator

Some of these parts we have already made and now I will explain how we made them. During the process in the university workshop I take pictures of these parts which I will show in this report. Turbine wheelAs I said earlier in the project proposal I have used the wheel of bicycle and this wheel will work like the turbine wheel. The wheel is shown in figure 2.

Figure 2: turbine wheelThe wheel is not manufactured in the workshop we just bought one wheel of bicycle from the market and used it for this turbine. In the workshop we did not make any changes with this wheel. If there is any change I will explain in this report. Water bottlesIn the next step the water bottles were attached with this wheel. Each water bottle we cut into two parts, one part which is the bottom one is attached with the wheel. The other part the top part of the bottle was wasted. The bottles are attached with the wheel by using the connecting plastic seals as shown in the figure. These plastic sheets are not expensive and we buy them from the market. We are only using the cheap stuff so that this project will be very economical. We will not use anything that is expensive.

Figure 3: turbine wheel and bottles attached to it

GeneratorIn the next section we are using a generator to produce electricity. The generator will use power from the turbine which runs from water and the will produce electricity. In the first case we tried to produce electricity from this generator from the turbine. The turbine was running very slow but we need this turbine to run fast so that more electricity can be produced. But we cannot run it fast from the turbine which we have already made. Then we discussed and concluded that the turbine can be run faster if we increase the height of the water tank. The water will fall from large height and more energy will be given to the turbine and the turbine will run fast. Therefore the generator will generate more electricity. But the problem is we cannot increase the height as hen the power plant will need more space and its volume will increase. We want this turbine to be very small and compact.

Figure 4: Electric generatorWe also observed that when the turbine was running then a lot of water was wasting as all water was not falling in the turbine some of the water was falling outside the bottles. Then we decided to increase the number of bottles which are attached with the wheel. Now very little water will be wasted because most of the water was going into the bottles. When we increase the bottles the speed of the turbine was increased and also very little water was wasted. The size of the turbine is very compact and small. No extra space we need now. The efficiency will be increased because the generator is producing more electricity. The generator is shown in figure 4 which we use in the turbine.

Water storing tank (we can use rain water and store it in this tank, but if it is not raining then we will use the water from anywhere like from tab water.

Figure 5: Water storing tankIn the next section I will explain the water tank. The water tank is very simple and we can see it is only bought from the market. It is a simple tank which use in our daily life. We just hanged it about 1 meter high from the turbine. It can store approximately 10 liter of water. If it is raining we can fill it by rain water. More water in the tank faster is the turbine and we can produce more energy from the generator. As the water is going low in the tank the speed reduces and when the water is finished the turbine stops. So we should store as much water as possible when it is raining so that we can use it when it is not raining.1
