When we began working with Ricky’s NYC, a New York beauty retailer, in August theyhad 3,200 Instagram followers (@Rickys_NYC). In less than 90 days we’ve successfullyand organically grown their followers to more than 8,800 followers. Here’s how we did it:

1. Frequency: Rather than posting just a few times a week, we began posting daily.Previously, no photos were being posted over the weekend. We’ve since discovered thisis when they receive the most engagement. In addition to daily posts, we’ve alsoincreased the frequency to include multiple posts a day though we’re careful to spacethem throughout the day.2. Engagement: Tag us in a photo? We’ll like it and frequently leave a commentthanking them for their business. In fact, we might regram the picture and showcasethem on one of our social channels.3. Leveraging Relationships: Rather than just relying on our promotion, we beganworking with the product owners, brand ambassadors and beauty bloggers to reachtheir audience and cross-promote. During Mercedes Benz Fashion Week we were ableto gain thousands of new followers in less than 24 hours because of our association withbeauty bloggers. 4. Great visuals: Beautifully curated photos make a bottle of nail polish look polished, aset of Velcro curlers look pretty and give personality to shampoo.5. Contests/Giveaways: Everyone likes to win and we make it easy. By following ouraccount, liking the photo and tagging a friend in a comment we get more exposure andso does the brand we’re giving away. Plus, we’ll get extra social mention when thewinner receives the product and tags us again. 6. Hashtags: The only way to search and be found on Instagram is with a hashtag. Wemake sure to include popular hashtags in all of our posts (between 5-10). This can bedone on the actual post or in the comment section below.

With no algorithm, ability to boost posts or buy fans, Instagram is a great way to getexposure and promote your brand.
