5th Sunday of Lent

April 2, 2017

Stewardship reflection: April 2, 2017-Fifth Sunday of Lent “Jesus said to her, ‘Did I not tell you that if you believe you will see the glory of God?” JOHN 11:40 Many of us say that we believe in God. We go to church on Sunday. We volunteer for events at our parish. But when life gets hard, the pressure is on, things aren’t going our way, do we really believe, do we really put our trust in the Lord? When we live a life of gratitude, being thankful for the gifts we have been given, we really do see that God is providing all that we need.

The Fifth Week of Lent

This week is filled with drama. We continue to prepare ourselves to be open to God's grac-es. We continue to try to choose Lent, to act Lent, in very concrete ways. We are examining our patterns and realigning our priorities. Our hearts are being renewed, as we experience God's reconciling love and beg for the gift of healing.

All this is wonderfully supported by the drama of the daily liturgies. We begin with the raising of Lazarus. During the week, we have powerful stories about the accusation against Susanna, a healing image lifted up in the desert, the three faithful witnesses who survive the fiery furnace,

the account of God's covenant with Abram, Jeremiah's fearful trust in the midst of the plot against him, and Ezekiel's incredible vi-sion of restoration of the nation - that God will make a new and everlasting covenant.

Each of these readings is matched with a gospel from John. We hear about witnesses and testimony and judgment, about his being lifted up (on the cross and in glory), about the freedom/liberation he has come to bring, about himself as the fulfillment of God's cov-enant, the new and everlasting covenant. And, we can feel the opposition rising against him. And we grow in devotion, and grace, as we realize that it is all “for me.”

5th Sunday of Lent

ICC Stewardship Corner

Nurturing God’s gifts for the church by increasing the number and depth of IC Parish Family Members’ willingness to share, in commu-nity, their gifts of time, talent, and treasure.

Eucharistic Adoration By Jan Middleton “Could you not watch one hour with Me?” Mat 26:40 What is Eucharistic Adoration? Simply put, it is adoring and honoring the Eucharistic Presence of Christ. Just as we believe that He is present in the Eucharist, so He is present and alive during Eucharis-tic Adoration. During Adoration, first, we genuflect - Jesus is present. In the peaceful environment, you can kneel or sit to pray. You can say a rosary, a chaplet or read a devotional. Most importantly, spend time listening for the Lord to speak to you.

Prior to being a parishioner here at IC, we were at a large parish in Cottleville with a perpetual adoration chapel. I had our children en-rolled in PSR and when I would drop them off, I would feel a pulling sensation, Iike a magnet, to go sit and visit Jesus there at the chapel. We had teenagers then and life was hectic. I would sit down, pray and breathe in His healing presence. Some days there would be tears and some days just comfort in knowing He was with me and I did not need to fear what the outcomes would be for our challenges. His unconditional love was so real for me during adoration, such a deep peace for my soul. It became my weekly silent retreat.

Jesus waits for us in the Blessed Sacrament. He wants to spend that intimate time with us. We can offer Him our petitions, concerns, trou-bles, joys, gratitude, and needs. Holy St. Teresa was once asked, “What would save the world?” Her response, “My answer is prayer. What we need is for every parish to come before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament in holy hours of prayer.” Our families, friends, parish and our world needs prayers.

IC has Adoration on the second Thursday from 5:30-7:00PM with Benediction afterwards. StVdP has Adoration every Tuesday from 5:00-7:30PM. Our Lady of Lourdes has perpetual adoration, just stop in the office and get the code. St. Frances Borgia has adoration on Tuesdays from 7:30AM-Wednesday at 6:30 PM and every first Friday from 6:30-7:30. There are many opportunities in our area for Adora-tion. I invite every parishioner to visit and find Christ’s peace.
