Its been a few weeks since our last Coaches View. After the first 6 league games we are currently 3rd in the league which is a decent start although it’s been a rollercoaster of a month in terms of performances

and results!

We got off to a great start winning the opening 3 including 2 tough away fixtures (Haddington & Forfar West End) looking solid at the back and dangerous going forward and brimming with confidence. That

was followed by 2 poor home performances against Arniston and Kennoway.

Both games provided different challenges. Arniston were well organised and proved stubborn and difficult to breakdown. Poor discipline and poor decision making in the final third proved costly as Arnie won the

game 3-1. We need to work on that element of our play when teams sit in against us.

The Kennoway game was probably the worst performance in 18 months. They really should have won the game quite comfortably. The pace and movement in particular from the front was exceptional on the day. We stole a point but it really should have been 3pts. 3-2 up into injury time we were naive trying to waste

time when we had a golden opportunity to score a killer 4th goal. We then proceeded to concede an equaliser through lazy defending in not stopping a cross and not picking up at the far post. This was when

we had a man advantage as well!!!!!!

With the standards we have set over the last few seasons the players knew that performance was unac-ceptable. The ONLY positive to take out the game was the point. It could prove crucial come end of the

season.

We travelled up to Dundee last Saturday to take on Violet and we didn't start the game well. We were quite anxious, probably through lack of confidence from the previous 2 results and Violet took a deserved lead

early in the game but we grew into the game. It was good to see Mikey Hunter grabbing his 1st for the club since his move from Musselburgh Athletic when getting the equaliser. We ground out the victory

through Paul Tansey coming off the bench to grab the much needed win. Our discipline and patience in the game were massive plus points and an improvement from the Arniston/Kennoway games.

All in its been a decent start but with its ups and downs. Its certainly better than the last couple of seasons when we have had to play catch up early on which makes it difficult.

On to Saturday and its a nice break from league business when we welcome West Calder United to Kings Park for our 1st Round East of Scotland Cup tie. Its the first meeting since we got promoted from the South Division in 2012 and they have always been a difficult side to play against. They have had a great start to

their league campaign and currently sit 2nd in the table. Its bound to be another difficult game and one I'm sure both sides are looking forward to.

We hope to see a good crowd at Kings Park to cheer on the lads.

MATCH REPORT A late Paul Tansey goal gave the Jags all three points in a scrappy encounter as the Jags fought back from a goal down.

The Jags were forced into making changes again for the tip to Dundee. Paul Tansey dropped to the bench along with David Liddle following last weeks home draw with Kennoway. Dalkeith looked sluggish in the opening exchanges and David Hay kept violet at bay in the 2nd minute with a fine save, but was picking the ball out the net after just five minutes when free kick from the left evaded everyone before nestling in at the back post. The Jags were really struggling to make any threats on the Violet goal but should have drawn level on 20 minutes when Matty Hunter was caught in two minds whether to head or volley a Tam Waters cross. The home side were looking dangerous every time they went forward and on 30 minutes were award-ed a free kick on the edge of the box. In the exchanges that followed one of their players stupidly threw the ball at the back of Scott McNaughton's head, an act spotted by the assistant referee, and he was shown a straight red card. The free kick on the other hand came to nothing. Dalkeith were lifted by the man advantage and began to assert some authority on proceedings before equalising just before half time on 40 mins. Pusledzki was fouled 22 yards from goal but the Violet de-fence switched off and allowed the striker to take a quick free kick, slipping the ball to Mikey Hunter who took a touch to steady himself before shooting low past the Violet keeper. Into the second half and The Jags pretty much controlled proceedings but the best chance came on the hour mark when Thomas Waters saw his effort saved by a acrobatic one handed save from the home keeper. The Jags introduced Paul Tansey for Matty Hunter on the hour mark and this injected a bit of pace and trickery into their play. A goal was coming and on 79 minutes The Jags got the reward.Paul Tan-sey capitalising on a goal keeping error to roll the ball into an empty net from the edge of the box. With time running out the home side pushed forward to try and save a point but this left gaps at the back giving McNaughton, Hunter, Waters and Tansey further chances to kill the game and make the score more comfortable. In the end the Jags were unable to extend their lead but at the final whistle were happy with their days work despite not being at their best.

Community Club STEVEN WILLIAMS WINS SFA GRASSROOTS AWARD Dalkeith Miners CYP Disability Officer Steven Williams has been selected as Regional Winner 2015 in this year's SFA Grassroots Awards in the category of Disability Football. In partnership with McDonald's and the Sunday Mail, the SFA Awards recognise the value individuals such as Steven bring to football and their communities. Steven devotes a huge amount of time and effort to our football club in his role as Disability Officer as well as running a team. His involvement means that school kids who might not otherwise get a chance to play football have that opportunity. Tony Begg, Club Development Manager for the Scottish FA South East Region said, 'The annual regional grassroots awards, in partnership with McDonalds and The Sunday Mail, is a chance for us to reward and highlight the great work that is done by volunteers across the region and to extend our thanks to all those who commit so much time, energy and passion to our game. I am delighted for Steven that he has won this award, he gives a tremendous amount to disability football and he is a worthy winner'. The awards ceremony will be on Saturday 29th August at Easter Road Stadium ahead of the Hibs v Raith Rovers match that day. Following his selection as Regional Winner, Steven will now go forward within this category to the national awards panel with the potential of being a National Winner, to be awarded at Hampden Park in September.
