5th June 2013 It is wonderful as the Principal to be able to share the great learning happening at our school. On many occasions over the last couple of weeks I have had the pleasure of children sharing examples of their learning with me. There is a great deal of excitement in the children as they are able to talk about new concepts, and great pride in showing a beautiful piece of class work. I have been most impressed by the learning occurring in our Kindergarten classrooms. It is amazing to see our youngest students reading and writing in such a detailed way after 15 weeks of school. Well done Kindergarten students and their teachers. Last Friday our school was represented in the Zone Cross Country Carnival, and I have received impressive feedback that our students are not only great competitors but also outstanding in their behaviour and sportsmanship. Well done to all the students who represented our school. You are champions! Every year we have the pleasure of selecting a student who represents all the qualities and attributes of an outstanding citizen and student within our school community. I am pleased to announce the Ambassador for Public School’s from Edensor Park in 2013 is Joshua To. Joshua has always demonstrated the values expected of students within our school and community. Joshua has the pleasure of attending special leadership training days at Belgenny Farm in Camden with other Ambassadors from across our Region. Well done Joshua, we are very proud of you. I would also like to take this opportunity to remind parents that we are currently accepting Kindergarten enrolments for 2014. If you have a child who turns 5 before the end of July 2014, please visit the office and collect the enrolment forms, as places are now filling. We send our well wishes to Mrs Boyce, who has been recovering from a serious car accident. We look forward to Mrs Boyce returning, when she feels she is ready, as we miss her. K. de Falco Principal

On Friday 31st May 2013, Miss Hayes

and Mr Kelly took 43 Edensor Park

competitors to Brenan Park for the

Zone Cross Country. Whoa! What a

day!

Mr Kelly was the Edensor Park

official. He got to tell students

where to go. Poor Miss Hayes was

very stressed! This was her first zone

cross country and she wasn’t sure

what to do. Luckily wonderful

parents and lovely Edensor Park

students were there to help her out!

All of our competitors tried their best to

run the course. Students between 8–10

yrs ran 2km and students between 11-13

yrs ran 3km. PHEW! Most parents and

teachers were glad they didn’t have to

run it! But speedy Leon Markovic and

swift Tommy Dujo made the reserves for

their age group. Supersonic Milos Anic

came 8th place and made it into

Regionals. Well done boys!!!

HUGE congratulations to all of our

Zone participants, you made our

school proud! A very BIG thank you to

parents who came down and showed

their support. We appreciate it.

Mrs Curcio’s

Maths Wrap Up

Year 2 have been focusing on Length this term.

They have been investigating non-formal units of

measure. Some children used a connecting cube,

some a paper clip and others a teddy bear counter

to make a ruler.

They worked in pairs to make their rulers and then had to measure

items around the room.

After comparing findings they discovered that the same item was

both 10 paper clips and 15 teddy bears long? Which was rather

confusing...

Discussions soon arose about the importance of

everyone using the same unit of measure!!! :)

We are collecting the Woolworths Earn & Learn stickers again this year! Bring them in and post them in the collection box in the foyer. There are lots of rewards to be gained for our school.

Children who turn five before 31st July 2014 are eligible to start school next year.

If you have a child, or you know of any children in Edensor Park who will be ready to start school next year, please call into the office now for an enrolment form.

We now have a Clothing Donation Bin installed down by the hall. Instead of regular clothing appeals, you will be able to drop off your donations at any time during the year. Bins will be serviced and maintained regularly and donations will be purchased from the school by Statewide Services and then sent to third world countries to aid and assist in the supply of second hand clothing and textiles for those most in need. Proceeds from these bins will be donated to Stewart House.
