3 Greeting  The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.  And also with you.   Prayer of the Day  You are great, O God, and greatly to be praised. You have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless  until they rest in you. Grant that we may believe in you, call upon you, know you, and serve you, through  your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.  Amen.   WORD God speaks to us in scripture reading, preaching, and song.   Children’s Message   Reading: Genesis 8:1-19

8 But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark, and  he sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded. 2 Now the springs of the deep and the floodgates of  the heavens had been closed, and the rain had stopped falling from the sky. 3 The water receded steadily  from the earth. At the end of the hundred and fifty days the water had gone down, 4 and on the  seventeenth day of the seventh month the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. 5 The waters  continued to recede until the tenth month, and on the first day of the tenth month the tops of the  mountains became visible.

6 After forty days Noah opened a window he had made in the ark 7 and sent out a raven, and it kept flying  back and forth until the water had dried up from the earth. 8 Then he sent out a dove to see if the water  had receded from the surface of the ground. 9 But the dove could find nowhere to perch because there was  water over all the surface of the earth; so it returned to Noah in the ark. He reached out his hand and took  the dove and brought it back to himself in the ark. 10 He waited seven more days and again sent out the  dove from the ark. 11 When the dove returned to him in the evening, there in its beak was a freshly plucked  olive leaf! Then Noah knew that the water had receded from the earth. 12 He waited seven more days and  sent the dove out again, but this time it did not return to him.

13 By the first day of the first month of Noah’s six hundred and first year, the water had dried up from the  earth. Noah then removed the covering from the ark and saw that the surface of the ground was dry. 14 By  the twenty-seventh day of the second month the earth was completely dry.

15 Then God said to Noah, 16 “Come out of the ark, you and your wife and your sons and their wives. 17  Bring out every kind of living creature that is with you—the birds, the animals, and all the creatures that  move along the ground—so they can multiply on the earth and be fruitful and increase in number on it.”

18 So Noah came out, together with his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives. 19 All the animals and all the  creatures that move along the ground and all the birds—everything that moves on land—came out of the ark,  one kind after another.   The word of the Lord.  Thanks be to God.

5 The holy gospel according to St. Matthew, the 11th chapter.  Glory to you, O Lord.   Gospel: Matthew 11:16-19, 25-30  [Jesus spoke to the crowd saying:] 16“To what will I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the  marketplaces and calling to one another,   17‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance;   we wailed, and you did not mourn.’  18For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon’; 19the Son of Man came eating  and drinking, and they say, ‘Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet  wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.”   25At that time Jesus said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these  things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants; 26yes, Father, for such was your  gracious will. 27All things have been handed over to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the  Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.   28“Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29Take  my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your  souls. 30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”   The gospel of the Lord.  Praise to you, O Christ.   Sermon

7 Apostles’ Creed  I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth.  I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,  born of the virgin Mary,  suffered under Pontius Pilate,  was crucified, died, and was buried;  he descended to the dead.  On the third day he rose again;  he ascended into heaven,  he is seated at the right hand of the Father,  and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,  the holy catholic church,  the communion of saints,  the forgiveness of sins,  the resurrection of the body,  and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayers of Intercession  After each petition: Hear us, O God.

Your mercy is great.   Receive these prayers, O God, and those too deep for words; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.   Offering and Prayer  Blessed are you, O God, maker of all things. Through your goodness you have blessed us with these gifts: our  selves, our time, and our possessions. Use us, and what we have gathered, in feeding the world with your  love, through the one who gave himself for us, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.  Amen.   The Lord’s Prayer  Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in  heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save  us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours,  now and forever. Amen.

8 SENDING God blesses us and sends us in mission to the world.   Blessing  Neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers,  nor things present, nor things to come,  nor powers, nor height, nor depth,  nor anything else in all creation,  will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus.  God, the creator, ☩ Jesus, the Christ,  and the Holy Spirit, the comforter,  bless you and keep you in eternal love.  Amen.   Peace  The peace of Christ be with you always.  And also with you.   Dismissal  Go in peace. Christ is with you.  Thanks be to God.   Postlude
