Who am IThis bird is named the golden eagle

because it has golden- brownfeathers around it’s neck. The adulteagle is dark brown and the tail iseither dark brown or spotted. Younggolden eagles have a white patch atthe base of the tail and white wingpatches.A golden eagles wingspan issix to seven feet long!It weighseight to twelve pounds.It can carryup to seven pounds!!

The early years

Young golden eagles take their firstflight 70 days after they areborn. Males fly earlier thanfemales.Only ten to fifteenpercent of eaglets will reach fiveyears old.Most will die becauseof starvation,disease,predatorsor electrocution.

Habitat Sweet Habitat◊ Golden eagles live in most places

with lots of mountains and woodedareas around a lake.They maketheir nests in cliffs and trees. Also inopen country,prairies,tundra,andhilly areas.

What's On The Menu◊ The golden eagle has an interesting

diet. They are carnivores. They eatground squirrels,hares and birdssuch as cranes,owls andptarmigans. They can kill largerprey like lambs and deer.

Making tracks

◊ The golden eaglestracks look like hugeclaws dug into theground. You mightfind these tracks bycliffs and around theforest. They kind oflook like pine treebranches.

◊ These birds are very powerfulthey will attack a full growndeer! Golden eagles areprotected be law. Ranchersonce killed many eaglesbecause they they were killingtheir live stock. They lay theireggs April through may. Theynormally lay two eggs.

Where in the world

◊ Golden eagles arefound in almost allthe us also in Mexicoand parts of Asia. Itis Mexico's statebird.

Fun facts

◊ Golden eagles arecarnivores. They liveup to 30 years old!Body is 33 to 38inches long. Theirwing span is 6 to 7.5ft. long! They aresuper fast! They candive more than 150MPH!
