5G Impact on Certifications

As of today, very limited number of 5G GCF/PTCRB validated Test Cases• Lack of 5G devices slows down TC validation• New test platforms development/introduction (especially for mmWave)• ~500 validated TCs by year-end out of a full scope of ~1700 TCs (30%)

This goes on top of the current number of LTE validated TCs• Example: ~15000 validated TCs for a LTE Cat.18 multi-band module

Number of 5G TCs is expected to grow in the next months/years as the standard matures and new features will be supported by networks/devices

Does 5G Pose Health Risks?

US officials set public concerns about the health impacts of 5G aside, concluding there is nothing about the technology or the bands it operates in which would require new limits on radio frequency (RF) exposure.

On a call with journalists, senior FCC officials noted the US’ current RF standards for handheld devices in particular, are among the strictest in the world. They added a review of scientific evidence conducted by the Food and Drug Administration’s Centre for Devices and Radiological Health found no adverse health effects in humans caused by RF exposure at or under the current limits.

FN980m Development Phases

• Development of the FN980m 5G datacard goes through different phases as follows:

MKT_1 phase Aimed to bring up the LTE and 5G sub-6 radio interface. 5G mmWave not supported

MKT_2 phase First hardware that will converge to the final size 30 x 50mm.Connectors for mmWave antennas replaced with final version, after feasibility study completed on the MKT_1 phase.

ENG_1 phase: Additional refinements of the MKT_2 hardware. Will bring the necessary changes and tuning on the RF parts, mmWave connectors position will change. Pins positions antenna tuning and audio will be changed too.

ENG_2 phase: Final hardware version aimed to start certifications.
