“5G Ride On!” – The Need

In the context of this growing market of connected vehicles, with

the need of services supporting business continuity. “5G Ride

On!” Catalyst provides methods to maintain agreed KPIs and

SLAs.

The Evolution of Telco BusinessBecome full ICT providers

Sales of 5G enabled vehicles are expected to reach 16 million

units p.a. in the EU by 2030, with even more in US and China.

Digital Services supporting this market are believed to add

value to user experience with greater opportunities for Telco

operators.

From The Digital Auto Report 2019 https://www.strategyand.pwc.com/gx/en/insights/2019/digital-auto-report.html

This opportunity is achieved by implementing some challenging Use Cases

“5G Ride On!” Use Cases

remote support to emergency operators

Targeting

Use Case #1 - Reliable Information for EV Users. The CSP supports the need of the Charging App provider to ensure reliable data to EV users in its App at any time. This is done by automatically moving Road data application from the 5G Core to the MEC according AI input information.

Use Case #2 - Reliable Communication for EV Charging.Out of home charging transactions require reliable communication: the CSP supports the need of the Charging Station Operators to provide reliable charging at any time.

Map of opportunities for Telcos for electric mobility and electrification, that includes examples of Telcos already pursuing them

In a paper published by TIM on Smart Mobility and new roles for Telcos in the emergence of electric and autonomous vehicles, it resulted that many operators are addressing the market, but some aspects are still to be considered. Our Use Cases are covering BOTH the aspect of the support to EV charging infrastructure AND the provisioning of reliable information to EV user.

Catalyst Objectives

Orchestrate & monetise a complex eco-systemDemonstrate how a complex eco-system of partners, systems and business

processes, as found in the EV charging market, can be orchestrated and

monetised by a 5G CSP using an autonomous network framework.

Offers new & enhanced assured serviceCSP/DSP to offer an assured service with improved SLAs that self-heals from

network outage and assures service performance. A common community and

enterprise IIoT need, prime for operationalisation and monetisation.

TMF ODA and eTOM aligned solutionUse of an ODA aligned architecture, covering fulfilment, assurance and billing

eTOM processes that serves eco-system customers, suppliers and curators from

order to production.

Employ new 3GPP and ETSI FeaturesEmployment of new 3GPP & ETSI standards, including 5G network slicing, multi-

access edge computing (MECs) and virtual network functions (VNFs) to achieve

desired result.

Deploy closed loop autonomous networkCreate a autonomous network orchestrated through a cognitive close-looped

process using TOSCA templates and VNFs that route traffic to a fail-over MEC.

How an ODA aligned autonomous service architecture can

support a complex eco-system as highlighted by the EV

Charging Market

Reliable Services for EV Charging – Solution Highlights

• Predictive analytics of potential communication loss• Dynamic deployment of a MEC local app using TOSCA• MEC Forwarding/Offloading• Using a dedicated network slice

• 5G as a backup for fixed connectivity• Dynamically configuring a network slice for a backup

communication between the charging stations and the charging station management system

• Adaptation to the evolving situation of the network outage

TOSCA Challenges ……….and Solutions

The Challenge The Proposed Solution

TOSCA does not have parent node types for connection functions.

Derive them from SID definition of Resource Function

Include GST in TOSCA TOSCA 5G Datatype definitions refer to JSON schema for GST parameters

TOSCA artefacts cannot be parameterized• So the image source for the app to be

deployed to a MEC cannot be a variable

Template invokes program to render a jinja2 template. The result is a template for deploying a specific app to a MEC

Scaling policy is ambiguous• So hard to iterate over a list of MECs

Custom code calls template to deploy to each MEC in turn

TOSCA cannot convert from affected area to a list of MECs• It cannot be a programming language

Use custom code
