Thank you for coming! See you next year!

Welcome to the 59th High Plains Regional Science and Engineering Fair, sponsored by the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. We look forward to viewing the results of your research and discussing your ideas and experiences with you. It is an honor for us to host you today. We celebrate the results of your efforts in many areas we consider critical to maintaining the technological, ecological and social balance in our lives. We extend a special thank you to the many teachers, parents, adult sponsors and judges, without whose hard work, time effort and guidance this science fair would not be possible.

This year more than 500 students prepared science fair entries that reflect numerous hours of problem solving, researching, developing, organizing and preparing to present their findings in this Science Fair setting. These skills are the valuable tools of scientists and engineers. We hope that each of you feel the satisfaction of completing a worthwhile project! We encourage every student to explore the potential career areas associated with the developmet of their fair project and to take the time to ask judges about how to improve their entry for next year.

We are proud of each and every one of you and are delighted when the research, hard work and sciencetific achievement produced by our local students is recognized nationally and internationally.

This year’s Grand Prize winner will represent our region at the 2014 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Las Angeles, Calif. May 11-16, 2014.

Congratulations to all of our participants!

2013 High Plains Regional Science and Engineering Fair Winner!

Conrad was born (or hatched as his mother insists) in Newcastle, Wyo. His interest with engineering and entrepreneurship started at a young age with the invention of fan-hats. Since then, Conrad started his own research and development business, won last year’s HPRSEF, became the first person in the state of Wyoming to build a nuclear fusion reactor, and made national news. His hobbies include HAM radio, inventing, and Kerbal Space Program. He is currently a student at SDSM&T doing electromagnetic research under Doctor Tolle.

Oh The Places You’ll Go Conrad will give a short talk on all of the places science and work have taken him so far in life. This presentaiton is a peek into the life of a Master Scientician.
