Group Task
• Build a House of Cards
• The Group with the Highest Card House Will Win!
Card House Building• they fall if you breath on it• unstable foundation makes them fall• if something hits them they fall• if too high & not enough support they fall• Comparison to Empires
> if an empire gets too big it will fall b/c it becomes difficult to maintain– Mongols had internal probs & the emp split b/c got too big– Byz Emp wanted more land & eventually they fell b/c too big
« so many ppl & ppl have differnt ideas & they disgree > cards got old & weak lose their stregnth
– ppl lose faith in Empires & become corrupt • Internal & External factors
> Internal issues w/ppl, Civil War, inability to innovate & advance, corrupt govt, too many ppl
> External attacks from enemies – Byzantine attacked by Ottomans; Romans attacked by barbarians; Mongols
attacked more internally; Mayans may have been destroyed from natural disaster
> empires copy off one another to grow and expand– Legacy Mongols copied successes from Chinese to continue on; Byzantine
