Welcome Friends and NeighborsWelcome to the Sodak Angus 57th annual bull sale. Although 2013 was a year of adverse weather and storms, we were blessed with abundant moisture, good forage crops and continued record high livestock prices. Strong markets coupled with diminishing livestock numbers further documents the importance of quality genetics within our cow herds.

We especially want to thank all of our customers, friends and neighbors for their support of our breeding program. We truly cherish all your friendship and appreciate your thoughts and advice which guide future decisions here at Sodak.

This 2014 bull offering will include 125 coming two year old bulls from both our Red and Black Angus herds. The bulls are developed on pasture and high roughage growth rations insuring soundness. Only the top of the bulls complete the 18 month ranch bull test and are ready to cover more cows in your pastures with fewer injuries.

This year the Sodak lineup includes grandsons of proven sires like SAV Bismarck, Sitz Upward, SAV Final Answer, HA Program and Really Windy. Red Angus sires include our new red Final Answer line and sons of CBR Rumbler, 5L Summit and CBR Ram Rod all of which have been siring tremendous performance, maternal and carcass traits. The 2014 offering consists of many half-brothers capable of minimizing genetic variation and maximizing profit within your operations.

Whether looking for a special herd sire or a truck load of bulls we believe you will find the selection to be second to none. As always our breeding program is founded on actual production measurements rather than anticipated progeny differences. We realize that 50% of a bull’s worth is derived from his dam and therefore we provide the dam’s nursing ratios for your consideration. In keeping with our commitment to customer service we share the risk of bull injury throughout the first breeding season and continue with care and feeding until spring delivery.

Again this year’s offerings have been videoed and are available for viewing at sodakangus.com. The bulls will be penned for your personal inspection on sale day and will sell via video board in the sale barn. DVAuction will also be available for online bidding assistance.

EPD’s, in this catalog are calculated for registered animals by their respective breed association and non-registered progeny are parental averages.

$Value Indexes, are multi-trait selection indexes, expressed in dollars per head, to assist beef producers by adding simplicity to genetic selection decisions. The $Value is an estimate of how future progeny of each sire are expected to perform, on average, compared to progeny of other sires in the database, If the sires were randomly mated to cows and if calves were exposed to the same environment.

Weaned Calf Value ($W), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for pre-weaning merit. $W includes both revenue and cost adjustments associated with differences in birth weight, weaning direct growth, maternal milk, and mature cow size.

Feedlot Value ($F), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for post-weaning merit compared to progeny of other sires.

Cow Energy Value ($EN), expressed in dollars savings per cow per year, assesses differences in cow energy requirements as an expected dollar savings difference in daughters of sires. A larger value is more favorable when comparing two animals (more dollars saved on feed energy expenses). Components for computing the cow $EN savings difference include lactation energy requirements and energy costs associated with differences in mature cow size.

Loss of use GuaranteeAs bred cows in our customer’s herd is of the utmost importance to us at Sodak Angus, we will furnish a replacement bull if available on the event a customer’s bull is injured and loss of use occurs prior to Sept. 1st 2014. If a suitable replacement is not available Sodak Angus will credit the customer in future sales for 50% of the purchase price minus the salvage value. All claims of injuries must be reported prior to Sept. 1st and Mortality Insurance will be available on sale day.
