During the course of an investigation on plant pathogenic fungi of the district Jaunpur (D.P.), a case of foliar infection of Amorphophallus campanulatus was recorded. On microscopic examination the fungus was found to be an isolate of Phoma. A perueal of the relevant literature revealed that a fungus with similar morphology has been described earlier on the same host under the genus Phyllosticta. Since the earlier concept of foliar infection by Phyllosticta and stem infection by Phoma is no longer valid and the present isolate fits well under the genus Phoma, the following new combination is proposed: Phoma amorphophallicola (V. Rao) Srivastava, Comb. Nov., Phyllosticta amorphophallicola Vasant Rao, in Mycopath. and Mycol. Appl. 20 (1963), 60-67, and in Sydowia 19 (1965) , 117-120. On living leaves of Amorphophallus campanulatus Bl., vill.-Darana (Jaunpur) , Leg. R. C. Srivastava, 1M1233251.
