Type 3

Type 4X

Type 12

Vent-Rite’s 700 Series enclosures are manufac-tured by the compression molding process.Underheat and extreme pressure, matched molds formthe solid enclosure. This produces an enclosurewith an excellent surface, high strength, anddimensional stability that is corrosion-resistant,non-conductive and will not support combustion. All enclosures are UL listed.

Watertight and DustTight - Indoor and Outdoor

Enclosures for Hazardous Locations - General

Enclosures - Optional (Consult Factory)

Type 7

Type 9

General Purpose - Indoor

enclosures are intended for use indoors, primarily to prevent accidental contact of personnelwith the enclosed equipment, in areas where unusualservice conditions do not exist. In addition, theyprovide protec-tion against falling dirt. Enclosureswhich are intended to be flush mounted in buildingwalls shall have provision to align the device with theflush plate and to compensate for the thickness of thewall.

enclosures are intended for use indoors toprotect the enclosed equipment against falling non-corrosive liquids and falling dirt. They shall haveprovision for drainage. If provision is made for theentrance of conduit at the top, it shall consist of aconduit hub or the equivalent. When completely andproperly installed, these enclosures shall prevententrance of dripping liquid at a higher level than thelowest live part within the enclosure.

(CSA type 3) dust-tight, rain-tight enclosuresare intended for outdoor use primarily to provide adegree of protection against windblown dust, rain, sleet and external ice formation.

(CSA type 4) watertight, corrosion resistantenclosures are intended for indoor or outdoor useprimarily to protect against corrosion, windblown dustand rain, splashing water and hose-directed water.

(CSA type 5) oil-tight, dust free enclosuresare intended for indoor use to provide a degree ofprotection against dust, falling dirt and dripping liquids.

Either indoor or outdoor use to provide a degree ofprotection against falling rain, splashing water, andhose-directed water; undamaged by the formation ofice on the enclosure; resists corrosion.

The term "explosion proof" has been so looselyapplied that NEMA deprecates its use. As defined bythe "National Electrical Code," the term "explosionproof" applies only to Type 7 and 9 enclosures which, when properly installed and maintained, are designedto contain an internal explosion without causingexternal hazard. The term should not be applied toType 8 enclosures which are designed to prevent anexplosion through the use of oil-immersed equipmentor to Type 9 enclosures which are designed to preventan explosion by excluding explosive amounts ofhazardous dust.

enclosures are intended for use indoors, in theatmosphere and locations defined as Class I andGroup A, B, C or D in the "National Electrical Code."The letter or letters A, B, C or D which indicate the gasor vapor atmospheres in the hazardous location shallappear as a suffix to the designation "Type 7" to givethe complete NEMA designation and correspond toClass I, Group A, B, C or D, respectively, as defined inthe "National Electrical Code." These enclosuresshall be designed in accordance with the require-ments of Underwriters Laboratories, Inc., "IndustrialControl Equipment for Use in Hazardous Locations,""Industrial Control Equipment for use in HazardousLocations," UL 698, and shall be marked to show theClass and Group letter designations.

enclosures are intended for use indoors in theatmospheres defined as Class II and Group E, F or Gin the "National Electrical Code." The letter or lettersE, F or G which indicate the dust atmospheres in thehazardous location shall appear as a suffix to thedesignation "Type 9" to give the complete NEMAdesignation and correspond to Class II, Group E, F orG, respectively, as defined in the "National ElectricalCode." These enclosures shall prevent the ingress ofexplosive amounts of hazardous dust. If gaskets areused, they shall be mechanically attached and of anoncombustible, nondeteriorating, verminproofmaterial.

Note: Although the 700 series enclosure(s) accommodate theNEMA 1, 2, 3, 4X, and 12 designations, power entrance and/orwiring between 700 series and operating equipment should bein accordance with specific NEMA requirements.

Note: NEMA 7 through NEMA 9 enclosures, motors, andcontrols are mounted (where required) but not externally wireddue to differences in local codes and ordinances.
