Baby Bottle Project 2020 St. Ephrem will distribute the Baby Bottles for our
annual collection next weekend, January 18th and 19th, 2020. We ask that the bottles be returned the
following weekend, January 25th and 26th. We thank you in advance for your continued support of this local
Pro Life initiative. The Legacy of Life Foundation funds two crisis
pregnancy centers in Bristol and Philadelphia PA, that serve hundreds of women each year who feel they have no choice but abortion. They support women
throughout pregnancy, and for at least 3 years after their babies are born.

Please come to the priests’ sacristy 5 minutes before Mass starts and notify the sacristan. He will put a gluten free host on the altar
to be consecrated. When you come forward to receive communion, come to one of the priests or deacons and request
a “special host”.

St. Ephrem to Run a Bus— All Welcome! On the above date thousands of people from all over the East Coast will be traveling to the nation’s capitol in support of life. Will you join us? We would like to take a full bus (56 people).
Bus will leave St. Ephrem approximately 7:30 AM from the parking lot behind the rectory (after the 7AM daily Mass). It will return around 8:30 pm. Brown bag lunch. Dinner will be at a restaurant north of Baltimore. Cost for dinner: $20.00 per person, paid when you sign up. God’s Love and the Christmas Stocking”
(a reflection by G. K. Chesterton)
Before he went to bed on Christmas Eve,
the young Chesterton would hang an empty stocking at the foot of the bed— an appropriate place to place a sock, wouldn’t you say?
When he awoke on Christmas morning, the empty sock would be filled with all kinds of treats and toys and candy.
“I did nothing to produce the things that filled the stocking,” Chesterton wrote.
“I had not worked for them or helped to make them. I had not even been good— far from it.
And the explanation was that a certain being whom people called Santa Claus
was benevolently disposed toward me.”
This was, for Chesterton, the meaning of Christmas: that whether he was “naughty or nice”
the one who filled his stocking loved him unconditionally.
He didn’t have to earn this love, nor did he have to work for it. His stocking was stuffed with good things
simply because someone loved him.
Our celebration of Christmas underscores this same belief, that the One who created the sun, moon and stars; the One who created the mountains and hills,
the flowers and trees, the birds and the bees; the One who created us and became one of us loves us. God came to walk among us as a human being in the person of Jesus.
We did nothing to deserve or to earn this great gift. We did nothing to merit God’s attention and affection.
But out of the greatness of God’s generous heart, God decided to come among us as a human being,
and, in doing so, showed us how to live as a gift to one another.
