The report, first after the Septem- ber floods, has shown the subscriber base has registered modest growth during the period ending September 2014. According to the report, the tele- com subscriber base in the state was 83,50,027 at the end of August 2014 and it increased to 83,99,153 at the end of September 2014, thus registering an increase of 49,126 subscribers. The data also reveals that barring Airtel and Idea, all other cellular com- panies have registered increase in sub- scribers. “During the period ending September 2014, Airtel’s customer-base came down from 28,16,533 to 28,00,232 registering a decrease of 16301 subscrib- ers,” reveals the report. Similarly Idea lost 2712 subscribers and its total sub- scriber base at the end of the reported period remained 4,23,722 subscribers. Pertinently, Airtel, the largest pri- vate cellular service provider in the state had come in for severe criticism for its inability to quickly restore its network after the floods. According to experts the negative growth of Airtel may have continued in October too and the real picture would be revealed once the next round of figures are released. The companies that have reaped the windfall include Aircel whose subscrib- er base during the period increased from 22,46,674 to 22,84,190. Aircel was one of the few companies whose network was restored immediately after the deluge. Reliance, Vodafone and BSNL too reg- istered the growth during this period. In wireline sector the state continued to witness downslide in tune with national average. The segment wholly controlled by BSNL saw the subscriber base decreasing from 1,61,478 to 1,60,363 by September end. In Mobile Number Portability (MNP), even as subscribers all over India continue to change their net- works in droves, the people in J&K are least interested. The state witnessed the lowest 28,690 MNP requests as against the 3.26 million requests from subscribers in other states. Notably, the tele-density in J&K continues to lag in comparison with national average. At all India level the tele-density stands at 76.75 whereas in J&K it is 69.98 percent. MUKEET AKMALI Srinagar, Nov 27: The CES Coaching Centre today announced free coaching for the flood-affected students of Kashmir. The CES Coaching Centre operating simultaneously from Rajbagh and Karan Nagar, here has started registration process for free coaching pro- gramme from November 22 and classes are likely to be held from 1st week of December. The institute shall offer free coaching to students of 8th, 9th, 10th classes in all subjects and to 11th, 12th class students from medical and non-medical streams at its branches. Talking to Greater Kash- mir, Director CES, Ajaz Rashid said: “The decision of give free coaching was taken in view of the enormous losses that Kash- mir has suffered in the recent floods. People affected by the floods are not in a position to pay the tuition fees for their wards.” “We hope other institu- tions in Kashmir would follow suit and come forward to help the students in these difficult times by imparting free coach- ing or at least giving heavy fee concession to the flood-hit stu- dents,” Rashid said. “We have to realize that crass commercialization of education in our city, particu- larly at this time, would jeopar- dize the interests of students,” he said. “Our desire is to provide free coaching to the students while maintaining the same standard and quality as before,” Rashid said. Academic coordinator, CES, Er Mueed ul Hamid said: “Education is a process of men- toring and directing the stu- dents to an illuminating path of wisdom and progress rather than just making it a means of making money. “We are offering free coach- ing to students so that they can come out of post-flood trauma, and mentor them in a way to make them ready to face competitive exams,” he said, adding that as a teacher, one has and should look beyond the opportunity of making money and instead use all his or her knowledge and talent for the betterment of society. Regarding admission for- malities, Hamid said: “Inter- ested candidates can visit our offices at Rajbagh or Karan Nagar to get registration forms and selection of candidates will be made after simple screening test.” Flood-hit transporters seek 1-year tax, fee exemption JK Bank holds literacy programs GK NEWS NETWORK Srinagar, Nov 27: J&K Bank conduct- ed various financial literacy camps in district Poonch and Rajouri wherein people from all walks of life were made aware about the importance of finances and their management through banking. The bank’s FLCC centre in Poonch organised these camps at Handloom Centre in Village Kanuy- ian, Government Boys High School in Purani, and Government Girls High School, Chandak and at Social Welfare Centre in Chakatroo Poonch. Speaking at these camps, Facilitator FLCC Poonch Kuldeep Kumar deliberated on the advan- tages of having saving account with the banks and its importance in day to day lives. Money kept with the bank not only remains safe and secure but earns interest also from the bank, he said. He explained in detail the bank’s education loan which has been tailored to meet all the needs of students till their higher studies, the bank in a statement said. Quiz sessions were held in both the schools and small giſts were distributed among the par- ticipants. In addition the literature pertaining to financial literacy brought by RBI was also distrib- uted. LDM Poonch Muhammad Shafi Ayaz informed the audienc- es about the importance of finan- cial literacy and credit counseling in entrepreneurship development. GK NEWS NETWORK Srinagar, Nov 27: All Kash- mir Passengers Minibus Transport Federation today appealed the government to announce one-year tax and fee exemption for the transport industry in Kashmir which they said has suffered massive losses in the recent floods. A delegation of the federa- tion visited Greater Kashmir office on Thursday saying that the transport sector in Kashmir has suffered massive losses. “The vehicle owner owners are not in a position to pay the taxes and other fee mandatory as per law as they have incurred huge losses to the vehicles and other properties.” "We appeal the transport secretary to exempt us from permit fee, token fee, vehicle fitness fee and other taxes being charged from us,” they said. They also appealed the banks not to charge interest to them on their loans for at least one year “so that we could recover our losses to some extent.” Hangers The Closet inaugurated Affordable homes: Bank can lend `10 lakh against infra bonds Mumbai, Nov 27:Reserve Bank of India allowed banks to extend loans up to Rs 10 lakh to individuals against long-term infrastructure bonds issued by them, thus easing loan norms for low-cost housing. “In order to provide liquidity to retail investors in such bonds, it has been decided that banks can extend loans to individuals against long-term bonds issued by them,” Reserve Bank of India said in a notification. Such loans, the Reserve Bank of India said should be subject to “a ceiling, say, Rs 10 lakh per borrower, and tenure of loan should be within the maturity period of the bonds”. However, banks are not permied to lend against such bonds issued by other banks. Earlier, Reserve Bank of India had exempted long term bonds raised by banks from mandatory regulatory norms like CRR and SLR if the money raised is used for funding of such projects. The Reserve Bank of India , in its communication addressed to the banks, said boards of the banks should lay down a policy in this regard prescribing suitable margins, purpose of the loan and other safeguards. In the Union Budget 2014-15 presented on July 10 by Finance Minis- ter Arun Jaitley, government had said that “banks will be encouraged to extend long term loans to infrastructure sector with flexible structuring to absorb potential adverse contingencies, sometimes known as the 5/25 structure”. PTI Srinagar, Nov 27: Hang- ers The Closet, a show- room of women wears was thrown open today at Sara City Mall here. The state- of-art boutique offers vari- ety of women wear outfits. Proprietor of Hangers said: “We have self-designed long chain of dresses besides rich collection of Pakistani brand and Indian designer suites.” Branded stoles are also available at affordable prices. According to the report, the tele-com subscriber base in the state was 83,50,027 at the end of August 2014 and it increased to 83,99,153 at the end of September 2014, thus registering an increase of 49,126 subscribers.

The data also reveals that barring Airtel and Idea, all other cellular com-panies have registered increase in sub-scribers. “During the period ending September 2014, Airtel’s customer-base came down from 28,16,533 to 28,00,232 registering a decrease of 16301 subscrib-ers,” reveals the report. Similarly Idea lost 2712 subscribers and its total sub-scriber base at the end of the reported

period remained 4,23,722 subscribers.Pertinently, Airtel, the largest pri-

vate cellular service provider in the state had come in for severe criticism for its inability to quickly restore its network after the floods. According to experts the negative growth of Airtel may have continued in October too and

the real picture would be revealed once the next round of figures are released.

The companies that have reaped the windfall include Aircel whose subscrib-er base during the period increased from 22,46,674 to 22,84,190. Aircel was one of the few companies whose network was restored immediately after the deluge. Reliance, Vodafone and BSNL too reg-istered the growth during this period.

In wireline sector the state continued to witness downslide in tune with national average. The segment wholly controlled by BSNL saw the subscriber base decreasing from 1,61,478 to 1,60,363 by September end.

In Mobile Number Portability (MNP), even as subscribers all over India continue to change their net-works in droves, the people in J&K are least interested.

Srinagar, Nov 27: The CES Coaching Centre today announced free coaching for the flood-affected students of Kashmir.

The CES Coaching Centre operating simultaneously from Rajbagh and Karan Nagar, here has started registration process for free coaching pro-gramme from November 22 and classes are likely to be held from 1st week of December.

The institute shall offer free coaching to students of 8th, 9th, 10th classes in all subjects and to 11th, 12th class students from medical and non-medical streams at its branches.

Talking to Greater Kash-mir, Director CES, Ajaz Rashid said: “The decision of give free

coaching was taken in view of the enormous losses that Kash-mir has suffered in the recent floods. People affected by the floods are not in a position to pay the tuition fees for their wards.”

“We hope other institu-tions in Kashmir would follow suit and come forward to help the students in these difficult times by imparting free coach-ing or at least giving heavy fee concession to the flood-hit stu-dents,” Rashid said.

“We have to realize that crass commercialization of education in our city, particu-larly at this time, would jeopar-dize the interests of students,” he said.

“Our desire is to provide free coaching to the students while maintaining the same standard and quality as before,” Rashid said.

Academic coordinator, CES, Er Mueed ul Hamid said: “Education is a process of men-toring and directing the stu-

dents to an illuminating path of wisdom and progress rather than just making it a means of making money.

“We are offering free coach-ing to students so that they can come out of post-flood trauma, and mentor them in a way to make them ready to face competitive exams,” he said, adding that as a teacher, one has and should look beyond the opportunity of making money and instead use all his or her knowledge and talent for the betterment of society.

Regarding admission for-malities, Hamid said: “Inter-ested candidates can visit our offices at Rajbagh or Karan Nagar to get registration forms and selection of candidates will be made after simple screening test.”

A ordable homes: Bank can lend `10 lakh against infra bondsMumbai, Nov 27:Reserve Bank of India allowed banks to extend loans up to Rs 10 lakh to individuals against long-term infrastructure bonds issued by them, thus easing loan norms for low-cost housing.

“In order to provide liquidity to retail investors in such bonds, it has been decided that banks can extend loans to individuals against long-term bonds issued by them,” Reserve Bank of India said in a notifi cation. Such loans, the Reserve Bank of India said should be subject to “a ceiling, say, Rs 10 lakh per borrower, and tenure of loan should be within the maturity period of the bonds”.

However, banks are not permi ed to lend against such bonds issued by other banks.

In the Union Budget 2014-15 presented on July 10 by Finance Minis-ter Arun Jaitley, government had said that “banks will be encouraged to extend long term loans to infrastructure sector with fl exible structuring to absorb potential adverse contingencies, sometimes known as the 5/25 structure”.
