Dear families of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, We have become accustomed to seeing pictures in the media and stories on the news about immigrants from Latin America and refugees from Syria fleeing violence and destruction in their own countries, trying to make their way to a safe place. We have also seen the reactions of people who want to keep them away from their countries, who fail to welcome the stranger and the helpless children. Have we forgotten Jesus’ call to comfort the homeless and the stranger? “They shall bring all your brothers and sisters from all the nations . . . to Jerusalem, my holy mountain, says the LORD.” In the three readings for this day, we are told that we are to welcome these strangers, to welcome the discipline of the Lord, which leads to peace, and to “strive to enter through the narrow gate” into the glory of God’s own homeland, the reign of God. One more week and summer will be officially over. Even though most of our children went back to school already Labor Day always ends the fun days of summer. It was originally organized to celebrate various labor unions' strengths of and contributions to the United States' economy. Now it is our last long weekend to spend time with family and friends. Father Quang +++++ Queridas familias del Inmaculado Corazón de María, Ya casi nos hemos acostumbrado a ver fotografías en las redes sociales e historias en los periódicos de inmigrantes latinoamericanos y refugiados de Siria escapando de la violencia y la destrucción de sus propios países, intentando hacer una vida mejor en un lugar más seguro. También nos ha tocado ver las reacciones de las personas que intentan mantenerlas lejos de sus países, que se oponen a ayudar a los extranjeros y a los niños indefensos. ¿Se nos ha olvidado la enseñanza de Jesús de ayudar a los desamparados y a los extranjeros? “Traerán todos a sus hermanos y hermanas de todas las naciones . . . A Jerusalén, a mi monte santo, dice el Señor”. IHM Tutoring Ministry Grades 1-5 The IHM Tutoring Ministry Grades 1-5 will begin tutoring on October 16,2019. We will be tutoring 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders of registered IHM parents in reading, writing and math skills. Tutoring registration will take place after all Saturday and Sunday English and Spanish Masses on August 24-25 in the Church Plaza. Tutoring registration deadline is Sunday August 30, 2019. A waiting list will be available for students who register after August 30, 2019. We are blessed to have many retired teachers as well as interested adults who have worked with children in the reading, writing and math areas. We are now in need of additional tutors since the number of students needing help has increased. If you are interested in tutoring students contact Mary Lou Klovee at 516-7484 for further information. During the Month of August 2019, IHM registered Parents may obtain Tutoring Registration forms and return the completed forms to the Church Office before August 30, 2019 OR you can register your Child for Tutoring after the Masses on August 24-25 in the Church Plaza.
