itself be a destination for those from afar.

Van Aken is clearly still in touch with the culinary scene. He has taught rising young chefs, such as Michael Beltran of the stellar Ariete in Coconut Grove, who studied under Van Aken at Tuyo and the Miami

Culinary Institute.

Van Aken said he’s been looking for a way to leave a legacy, and that was the heart of the school, which will be called In the Kitchen with Norman Van Aken. It won’t be a degree-based school but rather a place where techniques can be taught to everyone from home cooks to

aspiring chefs.

James Beard award winning chef Norman Van Aken is bringing two new culinary outposts to East End Capital’s soon-to-be-open Wynwood Arcade complex at 50 NW 24th Street, which also will be home to the The Salty Donut’s future

brick-and-mortar location.

The space will feature a cooking school, led by Van Aken, called “In the Kitchen with Norman Van Aken” along with a yet-to-be named restaurant concept, both slated to

open later this year.

Bonobos, an e-commerce men’s clothing brand, is opening its first brick and mortar store in Florida at

Wynwood Arcade this quarter.

Bonobos is still working on the store’s design, but will “take advantage of the existing character of the space with exposed concrete ceilings, beams and polished concrete floors,” a spokesperson told The Real Deal. “The full Bonobos assortment will be on display in comfortable atmosphere with a lounge area similar to how our other

20 Guideshops are set up.”

East End Capital is developing the Wynwood Arcade, a 20,000-square-foot indoor-outdoor venue that has already secured the wildly popular Salty Donut as its first food tenant. There is also space for restaurants.

Yet this one seems to be more of a lifestyle project, rolling together food, fashion, shopping, and possibly a spinning studio. “We’re being very selective on the quality and type of tenants; we want to create a unique composition that will complement Wynwood,” said Metro 1 Executive Vice President Tony Arellano, who is

leasing the space.

Craft-donut fans need no introduction to The Salty Donut; lines are standard at their only-open-on-weekends Wynwood trailer. This May, the pop-up goes permanent. In addition to their roster of inventive flavor combinations and famous spiked donut holes, the new location, at the Wynwood Arcade, will offer beer- and champagne-

donut pairings.

The Wynwood Arts District is home to over 70 Art Galleries, Retail Stores, Antique Shops, Eclectic Bars, and one of the largest open-air street-art installations in the world.

Taking over what used to be the warehouse & manufacturing district of Greater Miami, developers have rehabilitated neglected warehouses, shuttered factories, & other unused buildings, transforming them into the numerous art complexes, galleries, performing art spaces, restaurants, cafes, and other creative businesses that are seen here today.

With the introduction of the Second Saturday Art Walk in the District and the arrival of the Art Basel fair in 2002, Wynwood has seen some unexpected growth in a relatively short period of time as it gets more and more attention by the locals as the go-to place for an alternative and more cultural nightlife in the City of Miami.

Though the influence and relevance of the arts community in Wynwood is undeniable, new, creative businesses of all types are opening their doors in the District and encountering success here.
