640+ Muscles

Skeletal Muscles Attached to the

bones Cause the bones

to move Cardiac Muscles

Only in the heart Move blood in

and out Smooth Muscles

Internal organs

Muscles move the body by contracting and relaxing.

Contracting - shorter. The muscle fibers slide together and stack up to make a fatter shape.

Relaxing – longer. The fibers slide apart and the muscle gets thinner.

Muscles which move bones act together in pairs. This means that as one muscle contracts, its partner relaxes.
