a Drill out the rivet (2) .

Each time a panel is stripped in the workshop (e.g. when drilling), degrease and wipe the area and then use a fine paintbrush to apply out the following anti-corrosion protection materials:

- a pre-treatment primer,

- a two-part primer,

a Remove the bolts (5) .

a Gently lift the lock to extract the retaining hook. (6)

a Remove the exterior handle lock module from thedoor box section.

a Disconnect the connectors.

a Unclip the exterior handle lock module cable.

REFITTING

I - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART CONCERNED

a Clip the lock cable to the handle module.

a Fit the lock - module assembly into the door box sec-tion.

a Position the lock on the door box section retaininghook (7) .

a Connect the connectors.

a Torque tighten the lock bolts (8 Nm).

a Carry out a function test.

a Unscrew the locking bolt completely (clockwise oranticlockwise) without removing it.

a Remove the lock barrel.

REFITTING


a Position the lock barrel.

a Torque tighten (clockwise or anticlockwise) the lockbarrel bolt (2 Nm).


a Clip in the blanking piece (replace it if necessary).

a Carry out an operational test on the lock barrel.

a Initialise the window winder motor (depending onequipment level) (see Electric windows: Initialisa-tion) (87D, Electric windows - Sunroof).

Note:

Check for the presence of washers on the bolts(6) , the bolts (7) and the bolts (8) when refittingthe window winder mechanism.

The presence of washers ensures correct tight-ening.

a Adjust the flush fittings and shut lines on the bonnet.

a Partially remove the tailgate lock by pressing on thepre-retaining clip (3) .

a Disconnect the tailgate lock connector.

a Position the tailgate lock using the pre-retaining clip.

a Torque tighten the tailgate lock bolts (8 N.m).

a Position the steering column in the low position.

a Remove:

- the driver's front airbag (see Driver's frontal air-bag: Removal - Refitting) (88C, Airbag and pre-tensioners),

- the steering wheel (see Steering wheel: Removal- Refitting) (36A, Steering assembly).

a Partially remove the seal (1) .

When this function is activated, all the trigger linesare inhibited and the airbag warning light on theinstrument panel lights up continuously (ignitionon).

IMPORTANT

Never handle the pyrotechnic systems (pretension-ers or airbags) near to a source of heat or nakedflame - they may be triggered.

a Lock the computer using the Diagnostic tool (seeFault finding - Replacement of components) (MR394, 88C, Airbags and pretensioners).


a Remove the rear bench seat (see Single unit rearbench seatback: Removal - Refitting) (MR 393,76A, Rear seat frames and runners).

a Unclip the rear wing panel trim (see Rear panel lin-ing: Removal - Refitting) (MR 393, 71A, Body in-ternal trim).

a Remove the rear door sill upper lining (see Rear in-ner sill upper trim: Removal - Refitting) (MR 393,71A, Body internal trim).


a Remove central seat belt upper mounting bolt (1)

a Unclip the rear quarter panel trim (see Quarter pan-el trim: Removal - Refitting) (MR 393, 71A, Bodyinternal trim).

seat belt return mecha-nism mounting bolt

seat belt upper mount-ing bolt

IMPORTANT

Before doing any work on a safety system com-ponent, always lock the airbag computer usingthe Diagnostic tool. When this function is acti-vated, all the trigger lines are disabled and theairbag instrument panel warning light is continu-ously lit (with the ignition on).

a Remove the plug (2) .

a Remove the central seat belt upper mounting bolt

a Remove the seat belt return mechanism mountingbolt (3) .

a Remove the upper seat belt return mechanism.

a Remove seat belt inertia reel unit mounting bolt (4) .

a Remove the inertia reel.

REFITTING


a Refit the seat belt inertia reel.

a Torque tighten the seat belt inertia reel mountingbolt (21 Nm).

a Refit the upper seat belt return mechanism.

a Torque tighten the seat belt return mechanismmounting bolt (21 Nm).

a Refit:

- the plug (5) ,

- the centre seat belt upper mounting bolt,

- the rear quarter panel trim (see Quarter paneltrim: Removal - Refitting) (MR 393, 71A, Body in-ternal trim).

a Torque tighten the seat belt upper mounting bolt(21 Nm).


a Refit the rear door sill upper lining (see Rear innersill upper trim: Removal - Refitting) (MR 393,71A, Body internal trim).

a Remove the flexible stalk.

REFITTING

a Refit the flexible stalk.

a Tighten to torque the flexible stalk mounting bolts(35 Nm), (4) .

a Attach the wiring.

a Connect the connector.
