I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION

a Remove:

- the door trim (see Front side door trim: Removal- Refitting) (MR 393,72A, Side door trim),

- the door lock barrel (see 51A, Side opening ele-ment mechanisms, Front side door lock barrel:Removal - Refitting, page 51A-4) .

a Open the lock assembly access flap (1) following themarking on the sealing film (see Door sealing film:Removal - Refitting) (MR 393, 65A, Door sealing).

a Remove the exterior handle (see 51A, Side open-ing element mechanisms, Exterior door handle:Removal - Refitting, page 51A-5) .

a Drill out the rivet (2) .

a Unclip the handle unit (3) .

a Remove the door panel exterior handle module (4) .

Each time a panel is stripped in the workshop (e.g. when drilling), degrease and wipe the area and then use a fine paintbrush to apply out the following anti-corrosion protection materials:

- a pre-treatment primer,

- a two-part primer,

- paint in the vehicle body colour.

a Remove the bolts (5) .

a Gently lift the lock to extract the retaining hook. (6)

a Remove the exterior handle lock module from thedoor box section.

a Disconnect the connectors.

a Unclip the exterior handle lock module cable.

REFITTING

I - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART CONCERNED

a Clip the lock cable to the handle module.

a Fit the lock - module assembly into the door box sec-tion.

a Position the lock on the door box section retaininghook (7) .

a Connect the connectors.

a Torque tighten the lock bolts (8 Nm).

- the rivet (2) (part no.: 77 03 072 051),

- the exterior handle (see 51A, Side opening ele-ment mechanisms, Exterior door handle: Re-moval - Refitting, page 51A-5) .

a Carry out a function test.

a Close the access flap (see Door sealing film: Re-moval - Refitting) (MR 393, 65A, Door sealing).

a Refit the door trim (see Front side door trim: Re-moval - Refitting) (MR 393, 72A, Side opening ele-ment trim).

a Unclip the lock barrel unlocking blanking piece.

II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART CONCERNED

a Unscrew the locking bolt completely (clockwise oranticlockwise) without removing it.

a Remove the lock barrel.

REFITTING

I - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART CONCERNED

a Position the lock barrel.

a Torque tighten (clockwise or anticlockwise) the lockbarrel bolt (2 Nm).

II - FINAL OPERATION.

a Clip in the blanking piece (replace it if necessary).

a Carry out an operational test on the lock barrel.

a Connect the connector (according to the equipmentlevel)

a Insert the front section and rear section of the exter-nal door handle.

a Push the exterior handle towards the front of the ve-hicle.

a Refit the lock barrel (see 51A, Side opening ele-ment mechanisms, Front side door lock barrel:Removal - Refitting, page 51A-4) .

a Carry out a function test.

III - FINAL OPERATION.

REFITTING

a Refit the window winder mechanism in the door boxsection.

a Connect the window winder mechanism supply con-nector.

a Refit the front side door sliding window glass (see54A, Windows, Front side door sliding window:Removal - Refitting, page 54A-4) .

a

a Torque tighten the window winder mechanismbolts (6.5 N.m) following the tightening order: bolts(6) , bolts (7) and bolts (8) .

a Clip on the window winder mechanism cable (5) .

a Carry out a function test.

II - FINAL OPERATION

a Close the access flaps and the cuts in the door seal-ing film (see Door sealing film: Removal - Refit-ting) (65A, Opening element sealing).

a Refit the front side door trim (see Front side doortrim: Removal - Refitting) (72A, Side opening ele-ments trim).

a Initialise the window winder motor (depending onequipment level) (see Electric windows: Initialisa-tion) (87D, Electric windows - Sunroof).

Note:

Check for the presence of washers on the bolts(6) , the bolts (7) and the bolts (8) when refittingthe window winder mechanism.

The presence of washers ensures correct tight-ening.

a Torque tighten the window winder mechanismbolts (6.5 N.m) following the tightening order: bolts(1) , bolts (2) and bolts (3) .

a Clip on the window winder mechanism cable.

a Carry out a function test.

II - FINAL OPERATION

a Close the access flaps and the cuts in the sealingfilm (see Door sealing film: Removal - Refitting)(65A, Opening element sealing).

a Refit the door trim (see Front side door trim: Re-moval - Refitting) (72A, Side opening elementstrim).

Note:

a Unclip the access blanking cover at the locking boltof the dummy lock.

a Loosen the locking bolt completely without removingit.

a Remove the dummy lock.

a Open the access flap (1) for the lock assembly fol-lowing the marking on the sealing film (see Doorsealing film: Removal - Refitting) (MR 393, 65A,Door sealing).

a Remove the exterior rear door handle (see 51A,Side opening element mechanisms, Exteriordoor handle: Removal - Refitting, page 51A-5) .

a Drill the module's rivet on the door panel.

a Unclip the exterior handle module.

a Rivet the exterior handle module (rivet part no.: 7703 072 051).

a Refit the door exterior handle (see 51A, Side open-ing element mechanisms, Exterior door handle:Removal - Refitting, page 51A-5) .

a Carry out a function test.

a Close the access flap (see Door sealing film: Re-moval - Refitting) (MR 393, 65A, Door sealing).

a Open the flap (1) to gain access to the window liftmechanism as indicated by the marking on the seal-ing film.

a Lower the sliding window to allow access to the win-dow clip.

a Remove the window clip.

a Secure the window in the raised position usingmasking tape.

II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART CONCERNED

a Make cuts in the seal to access the window windermechanism bolts (2) .

a Remove the bolts (2) and (3) .

a Remove the window lift mechanism.

REFITTING

a Position the sliding window.

IMPORTANT

Before doing any work on a safety system com-ponent, always lock the airbag computer usingthe Diagnostic tool. When this function is acti-vated, all the trigger lines are disabled and theairbag instrument panel warning light is continu-ously lit (with the ignition on).

Handling the pyrotechnic systems (airbags andpretensioners) near to a heat source or flame isprohibited: there is a risk of triggering the airbagsor pretensioners.

a Pull the inner trim away from the rear wheel arch.

a Remove seat belt inertia reel unit mounting bolt (3) .

REFITTING

a Refit the seat belt inertia reel.

a Reconnect the connector.

a Torque tighten the seat belt inertia reel mountingbolt (21 Nm).

a Refit the upper seat belt return mechanism.
