• POSHAN Abhiyaan is a flagship programme of the Government of India and is being implemented by The Ministry ofWomen & Child Development

• Abhiyaan would strive to create the synergy through the robust convergence mechanism and other components

• There are a number of schemes directly/indirectly affecting the nutritional status of children (0-6 years age) and pregnantwomen and lactating mothers. Inspite of these, level of malnutrition and related problems in the country is high

• A National Council on India’s Nutrition Challenges has also been set up under the Chairpersonship of Vice Chairman,NITI Aayog for policy direction, review, effective coordination and convergence between Ministries which have asectoral responsibility for the challenge of nutrition.
