GTA

V

remains

one

specifies newwildlife, upgradedweather and damage effects, and an array of new details,

us

dreamers.

clamour to play their way, and were no different. Hell, Rockstar knows this! Theyve

institutionalisedanentirevideogameseriesthatsatiriseswhatourpopculturedsocietiescrave

wetrust,butinspirationiscontagious.Whilethefollowingfivefeaturesprobablywontmakethe

reindeerwithmagicweapons. A GTA V Christmas Special available on Christmas morning?

Rockstarwould be silly not to capitalise on our seasonal sentiments.What a perfect time to

introduce some rudimentary snowboarding and sledding mechanics on Mt.Chilad, freshly

rechristenedMt.Chillyad.YouknowwhatelsehappenedonChristmas?DieHard.

GTAhasntletusblowanyonesheadcleanoffsincethePS2era.Heck,eventheUndeadDLCfor

RedDeadRedemptionhadmassivechunksofcraniumblastingwithin.Whynottakeacuefrom

somethingRockstarsalreadydonebetter?Ofcourseitmaybeeasiertocounterpoint themorbid

intricaciesofapointblankshotgunwithoverthetop,bloodthirstyzombies,butRockstarsalways

gotten awaywithmurder. Theyve already proven themselves capable of gorier, experimental

gunplay.WhytherestraintwithGTAV?Whathappenedtothose3Dexitwoundsfromtheoriginal

RedDeadandMaxPayne3?Wewantanevolutionofthat ideaorat leastanacknowledgment.

The enemy A.I. already react in a remarkably realisticway, thanks toGTA IVs pioneering of

EuphoriaandNaturalMotiontechnology.Letsthrowsomecomicalhyperviolenceatthosephysics

systemsthereisafinelinebetweensadistic,granularrealismandclevergallowshumour,andwe

wantRockstartodanceonthatline.Youknow;theoccasionaleyehangingout,goonsscreaming,

sprayingandcirclingwithbloodystumpsforhands.TarantinomeetsMontyPythonwouldbegreat,

butwedbethrilledwithsnazziergunshotholes.Ifsomeofourmoredisturbingdreamscometrue,

explosionswillbecomeamuchmessierproposition.Remember,alwaysbepolitewhenaskingfor

extraphysics

2. Extra Physics, Please

Well done. Beyondmurder related tech prowess, we love the environmental, physicsbased

flourisheswe see inPCgraphicalupgrades,and thesenewconsoles seem fit to functionona

comparable level. Its difficult to imagine a single way in which Rockstar could improve the

fundamentalweightandphysicalmechanicsofmotion inGTAV,butextra touchesarealways

welcome. With mostly shorthaired protagonists, Lara Crofts TressFX wouldnt hold much

relevancehere,butflowingfabricmight.RememberallthosetarpsgettingblownapartinthePC

version ofMirrors Edge? Does anyone else get excited about shirts and pants that animate

dynamicallyandindependently?Sportsfans?Obviouslyitsnotimpressiveinreallife,butneither

is traffic density. Visually and physically, the subtlest factors of simulation can havemassive

gameplayramifications.

on

afence

in

the

of

a

footchaseandyouwereforcedtoditchit.Whatifyougothitbyacarsohardthatyoulostashoe?

realisticboostaswell.Withmoreaccuratelyproportionedcrowds,streetsidedebrisandtraffic

jams,Rockstarsreputationfor innercityauthenticity isabouttoreachthenexttechnical level.

dream.Theres

something

dark

and

desperate

about

the

first

person

perspective;

an

edginess

that

can make our personal relationships to a gameworld more intimate. Grand Theft Auto

continuouslysetsthestandardforliving,breathingcities,butmanyfeelasthoughtheyeunable

toproperlyappreciate theiraccurateproportionsand stunning scope in thirdperson.We fully

appreciate that such an implementationwould requireentirely redesigned combatmechanics

fromthefirstpersonpointofview,butmanymoddersovertheyearsdidadecentunderground

jobofit.WhycantRockstardoitbetter?Inadreamworld,wedhavefluidsprintsandslidesala

FarCry3withasimilardeathcameraonethatstayslockedtoyoureyesandtumblesdynamically

asyouflip,rollandfallwithstyle.Ifallwegotwasasolidcockpitviewwhiledrivinghandsonthe
