Shillong is a capital of Meghalaya , and it is also known as The Abode of Clouds . It is

surrounded by Khasi and Jaintia Hills. It is situated at 4098 feet above from the sea level.

This town has lush green valleys and magnificent lakes. If you are going by road NH 40 from

Guwahati to Shillong there is a striking attraction of Umiam Lake, will take your breath with

beautiful attraction of this lake. There are a number of falls, lakes, museums, with some

other attractive places.

First of al,l let’s start the trip with the largest peak of Asia Shillong Peak , which is 1966 ft

above from the sea level. It is located in the Air force base, so for the security reasons

camera and any other illegal stuff is not allowed here. It is open from 9 AM to 5 PM. It often

surrounded by the fog due to its high altitude, so it seems like you are walking on clouds,

the panoramic views from the city is so amazing with the waterfalls, the Himalayas, the

lush green surroundings as well as the Bangladesh plains. You can bring some packed

snacks to stay and enjoy the beauty of nature. The views from this peak you will not find

from anywhere else.

After the Shillong Peak the next destination is Elephant Falls which is 12 km away from

here. The visiting timing is 10 AM to 6 PM. So have to reach there before 6 PM for

sightseeing the splendid waterfall. You can hire a taxi or a cab, and if you are feeling hungry

then you can stay and can take some snacks. You are surprised by the name, yeah! Most

people are surprised. The name is not given by the Khasi, the original name was Ka kshaid

lai pateng khohsiew (three steps waterfalls) which was given by Khasi, that means the

fall has three succeeded rocks. The Khasi named the places by which they can relate. The

new name was given by the British because of the rock near the waterfall that resembles

an elephant, that rock was demolished in an earthquake in 1897. But the name hasn’t changed. It is still known by the same name.

The first fall is broad and hidden between the trees; second fall is tamed and negligible in

the winters, when the water level recedes. The third and last fall is the tallest. It has clean

water flowing over dark overhanging rocks without any particular forms. The steep steps

can be dangerous for the kids and elders.

the wife of the Governor of Assam. She constructed this park in Japanese style. This

consists of a mini zoo in one kilometre area. This park is one of the most tourist attraction

places. This zoo is homes around 140 reptile species, 73 avifauna species along with other

mammals such as deer and serow. Another animals and birds are also spotted in the zoo,

including Leopard, Jackal, Porcupine, and Himalayan black bear, Kite, Hornbill and Mynah.

The park also has a lush green garden with a vast variety of orchids and other flowering

plants. This is a smarmy a ecstatic place for everyone. You can walk here, read a novel

indicates, kids are always fluttering through the colourful wings of a butterfly, that tickling

in the stomach when they experience some strange and new things. Butterflies are

looking so beautiful and we try to catch them when they sitting on a flower, but

unfortunately that fly away with a flinch of eyes. This museum is owned and managed by

Wankhar, Riatsamthiah. This attracts many kids and elders to visit here, this program is

the Gallery, Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, Motphran, and Shillong Golf Course.
