Friday Knight LightsWe are in need of volunteers to staff the Friday Night Football Concession at Woodforest Bank Stadium on Friday November 2, 2018. Check-in at the North Entrance at 5:30PM.

We will need about 40 volunteers to staff both sides. The concession company has asked us and if we can’t sup-port them they will find another volunteer organization. At one time we had all the games but are down to just two. This is a fund raiser that you can do with your spouse, teenage family member or friend.

Please consider volunteering. Send responses to John Tatman at [email protected] or Harold Schambach at [email protected]

Brothers and Friends, I would like to welcome Roy Cuellar who transferred into our Council and attends Sts. Simon & Jude. Year-to -Date we have five new members toward our goal of 23 for Star Council. Let’s each member do their part in recruiting one new member. During the October Business Meeting, the Council approved awarding the Houston Coalition for Life the recipient of our ultrasound donation. The Council will provide 50% of the funding and the remaining amount will be provided by the KC Supreme Council. The first step in the process is to submit the paperwork to the Archdio-cese of Galveston-Houston and an if approved to the KC Supreme Council. The ultrasound machine will be used at their new Blue Blossom Pregnancy Center located at 2925 W. T.C. Jester Blvd. The Knights of Columbus have already donated over 950 ultrasound machines and the goal is to reach 1,000 by year end. Hopefully, our Council will be number 1,000! We had a great turnout for our Family Picnic on Sunday October 21st. The weather was beautiful, the chil-dren had a good time and good fellowship. Thanks for all the brothers and wives who helped and special thanks to Eric Salley for coordinating the event. Mark Piron has volunteered as the Council’s Retention Chairman. As chairman he will be working with the Retention Committee appointed by the Grand Knight to help keep the members of the Council interested and participating in Council activities. If you wish to serve on the Retention Committee, please let me know. Mark your calendar for the Annual Family Christmas Party to be held on Sunday December 9th. We will have a visit from Santa and a catered meal from Mel’s. In past years the Grand Knight has selected the knight & family of the month. I would like to obtain the members input in the selection process. You can now nominate a knight and family of the month. This new fea-ture can be found in the Members Only section of the Council’s website. Please enter your recommendation and reasons why they are being nominated. Remember to report your service hours on the Council’s website, at Business Meeting or emailing DGK Frederick Sunderman your hours. And finally, don’t forget to take the VIRTUS training and send your training information to the Grand Knight. If you have not been trained, you can logon to the Virtus website www.virtu-sonline.org or contact your parish to schedule a training session.

Vivat Jesus!,

Pro LifeMy Brother Knights

The fall 40 Days for Life prayer vigil is under way! In case you missed this news, Whole Woman’s Health respond-ed to Hurricane Harvey by offering free abortions for women affected by the storm- what a horrendous example of exploitation during a crisis. As our community continues to recover from this storm, let us instead respond to these crisis pregnancies with compassion, resources, and prayer not abortion.

Prayer works! Since 40 Days for Life began in 2007 these are the results following 40 Days vigils: 13,5974 lives have saved, 156 abortion workers have quit, 90 abortion centers have closed. We pray Brothers that you will be actively involved in this effort.

There is a huge building located at 4600 Gulf Freeway in Houston, Tx which is the home of the largest abortion center in the Western Hemisphere. Who doesn’t know that Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion operation in America doing more than 300,000 abortions a year? Who is unaware that they export abortion around the globe?

Our next opportunity to help the Helper’s of God’s Precious Infants will be Saturday November 17, 2018 for an 8:00 am Mass at Annunciation Catholic Church located 1618 Texas Avenue Houston, Tx 77003 fol-lowed by a Rosary at Houston Women’s 4820 San Jacinto. Parking will be along Caroline St.

Brothers, we are called to gather together and invite friends, Family and any one that will listen, it is time to put an end to horrible thing called Abortion!! Let us step forward and be the voice of the voiceless and give Life an opportunity. Because together, much can be accomplished!!

Your Brother in ChristPaul(Yogi)Ybarra Jr.

BowlingThe 1960 Hope Center Bowling for Charity Fund Rais-er On Saturday July 28, 2018, the Council sponsored a team to Bowl in the second annual Bowling for Charity for the 1960 Hope Center at Diamond Lanes. I put to-gether a family team which 3 of us bowl League, I just added the spouses.

I was glad that they had filled all 40 lanes. I felt that the event was very well organized. It was 2 1/2 hours of bowling and fun with a DJ, Free Cokes, Popcorn, and approximately 40 prizes to give away from a sepa-rate Raffle they had that evening. We were bowling next to a group of 4 Knights from St. Ignatius. Also Christ the Good Shepherd had 4 Teams that they had put together and even Northside Methodist Church had a couple of teams.

Since we were in front of the DJ of course it was loud, but we and a couple of lanes around us that were inter-acting with the DJ, so we had a great time line dancing in the isle especially when He started to play some of the older music. Patrick won a lighted Miller Lite Sign from the Raffle for his man cave.

I did get an e-mail a few days later from Debbie John-son (the director) thanking us for participating and making the fund raiser a success for they had raised $6000.00. I hope to get Council #2917, the ones we bowl with in League to also get involved with the Hope Center. Hopefully the Council will sponsor us next year as we’re all looking forward to participating again, as I feel they are a very worthy charity. So, THANK YOU Council for allowing us to meet some very caring people who aid the Homeless in our Com-munity.SK David Polasek

GOLFOur League will start on Wednesday September 5th. with a short meeting at 2:00 pm at Panorama Country Club. It may be a rainy week. I will post an e-mail by 11:30 am Wednesday on course conditions.Brad Spurlock
