Call to Confession Trinity Whitley

Prayer of Confession Healing God, We have languished in our blindness. We have chosen to hide in darkness to avoid reaching out and risking acceptance. We are afraid of the light, and yet we crave it. (silent confession)

Forgiving God, In Your light, there is healing and hope, restoration and transformation. Forgive our lack of faith and our fearfulness, O Lord. Give us courage to reach out to the light and accept its healing rays. May our lives be transformed by Your mercy, for we pray this in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

One sabbath while Jesus was going through the grainfields, his disciples plucked some heads of grain, rubbed them in their hands, and ate them. But some of the Pharisees said, “Why are you doing what is not lawful on the sabbath?” Jesus answered, “Have you not read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? He entered the house of God and took and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and gave some to his companions?” Then he said to them, “The Son of Man is lord of the sabbath.” On another sabbath he entered the synagogue and taught, and there was a man there whose right hand was withered. The scribes and the Pharisees watched him to see whether he would cure on the sabbath, so that they might find an accusation against him. Even though he knew what they were thinking, he said to the man who had the withered hand, “Come and stand here.” He got up and stood there. Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the sabbath, to save life or to destroy it?” After looking around at all of them, he said to him, “Stretch out your hand.” He did so, and his hand was restored. But they were filled with fury and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus.

The youth will host a drive-through food drive on Sunday, February 7, 1 - 3 p.m. outside the Fellowship Hall to collect non-perishable food items for Manna on Meridian and the TLH Help Shelves. Your donations will help combat hunger and food insecurity in our community! You can give financially to the Souper Bowl of Caring at www.faithpcusa.org/give.

Lenten Vespers. The season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on February 17. Join us on Ash Wednesday for a special Vesper service that will include a unique reminder of our humanity and our need for Christ. Even as we usher in the season of Lent by observing Ash Wednesday, we will continue to observe social distancing and mask protocols. Vespers will be held on Wednesday evenings during Lent at 6:00 p.m. by the fire pit near the bus parking. Please bring a chair or blanket to help with social distancing. This time of worship is appropriate for all ages and lasts around 30 minutes.

The Gospel of Luke is full of amazing character and gripping stories. It is hard to relate to some of these characters, while others remind us very much of ourselves. We are looking at stories from Luke to see if we can find ourselves within the scripture.
